Raven's bakery.

End of thread.

see after reading all about this place , I went in there and was abit disappointed , bought a couple of cakes and they where tasteless and hard

did I just get them on an off day or is that really the bakery choice of NSC?

(I'm another non- Forfars person , La Vida down London Road however is BRILLIANT)

You must have been extremely unlucky. I have never had any complaints in nearly decade of Raven's goodies. When I was a stoner most days involved an early morning spliff then buying as many baked delights as I could afford.

Sausage rolls might be the one thing that they do that isn't great, go for a pie or my personal fav on the savoury front a Scotch Egg.

Brighton Sausage Co in the North Laine is the only place for a sausage roll these days and as luck would have it I work just round the corner.

I am very partial to Cherry Bakewell tarts, the big ones that you sometimes see lurking under a plastic cover at a proper caff (the one in the Salts at Seaford used to do them but it has recently been made posh) not the wimpy two bites and gone Mr Kipling ones.

Back in the day when I were a lad I used to love a Swiss Bun, very rarely called that now as they are marketed as "iced buns" and aren't as nice. Many people refer to them by the more populist name of "Sticky Willie" (oooer missus). Is someone going to start a bun poll????

Well if it does come down to a competition between the two major retailers - I have always maintained that it is Greggs for pastry products, and Forfars for sweet delicacies. To blur the two would be sheer madness.

I have to say the worst culprit that I absolutely avoid is 'The Pasty Shop', found on many a station concourse and town centre.

Put an 'r' between the t and y and they then come close to what they actually are.

And then the f***ing flecks fall down your top and leaves it looking like something from River Island.
