[Misc] The Award-winning official "More Snow Tomorrow?" Thread [2024-25 Season]

As always, Brighton & Hove Buses' website gives a fairly detailed picture of how things are in their operating area. And they update it regularly.

Brighton Hove Bus and Coach Company

Serious Disruptions
Snow and ice - 1.05pm, Sunday 5 February
Disruption to bus services

Snow and ice are causing some problems for bus services this morning, and the weather conditions have more seriously affected eastern parts of Brighton rather than the western side of the city. Services are currently operating as follows:

1 - as normal between Mile Oak and Whitehawk garage only.

2/2A - operating as normal between Steyning/Shoreham and Brighton Eastern Road/Gala Bingo, then via Eastern Road and Wilson Avenue to Warren Road, then from the Downs Hotel direct down Falmer Road to and from Rottingdean. Presently we are unable to serve more of the estates in Woodingdean.

5/5A - the 5 is operating full route normally, whilst the 5A is operating normally between Hangleton and the bottom of Carden Avenue, then via the 5 route to/from Patcham Mackie Avenue (unable to serve Old London Road/Patcham Old Village).

5B - operating normally between Hangleton and Beaconsfield Villas, then via Preston Drove, London Road and Carden Avenue to/from Hollingbury Asda. Unable to serve Surrenden Road and Braybon Avenue.

6 - operating normal full route.

7 - operating normal full route.

12/12A - operating Brighton to Seaford, then doubling back to run via the A26/A27 to/from Eastbourne.

13X - will operate normally between Brighton and Newhaven, then direct via the A26/A27 to Eastbourne Arndale Centre.

14B/14C - operating full route normally.

21 - operating between Open Market and Marina direct via Elm Grove and Wilson Avenue. Unable to serve other parts of Whitehawk or the Manor.

22 - now operating normally between Churchill Square and the Downs Hotel, then direct down Falmer Road, terminating at Rottingdean Pond, returning direct via Falmer Road to the Downs Hotel. We regret we are unable to serve more of Woodingdean at present.

24 - now operating direct up/down Coldean Lane (unable to serve Coldean estate).

25 - operating full route normally.

26/46 - operating normally Southwick/Brighton to Woodbourne Garage, then direct to the end of Ditchling Road at Old Boat Corner and then into Asda. Unable to serve Carden Hill.

27 - operating between Dyke Road Avenue/A27 and Saltdean Lido. Currently unable to go further into Saltdean or Westdene as we have buses stuck.

28/29 - operating between Brighton and Uckfield Bus Station only. We are not able to serve Isfield or Ringmer/Halland. In Uckfield, buses are entering the bus station direct from the bypass, ie not able to serve Ridgewood or the High Street.

37 - operating between Brighton Station and County Hospital only. Currently unable to serve Bristol Estate.

49 - operating between Portslade and Lewes Rd/The Avenue only.

49A - operating between Brighton and Heath Hill Avenue shops only.

50 - operating between Brighton Station and Upper Hollingdean Road, then direct down Lewes Road back to Brighton - unable to serve Hollingdean estate.

57 - not operating.

77/78/79 - not operating.

81A/81C - the 81A is now operating between Lewes Road/The Avenue and Brighton Station, but direct up and down Queens Park Road and not via Freshfield Road/Down Terrace. Service 81C is operating as per the 81A from Lewes Road/The Avenue to the Clock Tower, and then as normal to/from Hove Station from Churchill Square. We are still unable to serve Goldstone Valley and Meadowview on these services.

We will continually update this page and get services resumed in affected areas as soon as we can. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Was very odd last night how localised the weather can be. In Southwick early evening & it was pouring with rain. Drove straight up to Falmer for a job and there was heavy snow falling.

The A23 towards Warninglid/Handcross was a nightmare with vehicles spinning off or getting stuck on the hill: I spent hours walking round with a shovel trying to dig cars out or push them along. Half the cars were full of revellers coming back from Brighton so there was the edifying sight of groups of drunken girls in short skirts & high heels attempting to push their mates' wheelspinning cars out of the snow as the driver completely failed to understand the principle of using a higher gear under the circumstances :lolol:

Crawley had plenty of snow, Haywards Heath a decent amount, Burgess Hill slightly less (but still more than Brighton :p )

Is this the first ever recorded sighting of the word "reveller" in a piece written by someone other than a journalist?

Over there
Had crazy amounts of snow here In Southend. About 10-12 inches and drifting double that. Snowed from 10 last night until about 7 this morning.
My mum in portslade has serious snow envy.

Went up to Devils Dyke, was a decent amount up there. Crazy that I live just a mile or two away and nothing.

Back in Sussex
Couldn't believe how soon everything was white heading North out of Worthing this evening.

Had a little unintended fun in the car in a small lane near Gatwick - thought I was stuck for a while - there was a decent amount there.

And then, heading West it thinned out to nothing.

I can't believe my luck in there being none where I was all weekend and none at home.

Mark Cross Church of England Primary School is the only school up that way to announce it will be closed tomorrow. Uckfield Community Technology College will be OPEN to all year groups starting at 10am, lesson 2, because of the forecast of icy road conditions for school buses first thing.

Updated: School closures announced across East Sussex for February 6, 2012 From The Argus)

I feel this thread is missing pictures of the white stuff from this year. We need to sort that out. Get your cameras out please.

Hello.

It's not much but the latest GFS ensemble is showing 100% prob of snow for 2 periods later in the week. It doesn't look like much snow for Worthing (the grid point I chose for this) but it's the 1st time I've seen 100% on the new ensemble.

I'm sure i'm not the first to ask but can you steer me in the direction of the source of these charts Papa? I read with interest and would love to be able to learn how to analyse or produce these.
