PL is probably better to comment than me, but according to this model( not all models are saying this) there would be bands of snow from tonight, getting heavier through the week as the flow from the east increases and colder uppers head towards us.

8C Saturday 7C Sunday and still the weather forecasters insist on this being " cold " for late January. It is not. It is around normal. 6-7C is normal for this time of year. Not forgetting we need 0C to have snow and that is a huge drop. I can't see it happening this winter and it is just as likely the Westerlies will take over next week with 10C-12C again. Its just too late for any meaningful cold weather.

Regardless of any forecasts its the above that gives me the most confidence that by the weekend we will have some of the white stuff.

The Easterly winds are still prominent in the latest models.

Even though netweather is predicting snow for RH16, I will take it with a pinch of salt. But all the signs looks promising for a snow event at some point this week.

A pinch of salt might be handy if it snows :)

For whatever reason I have found Net Weather is very good at predicting snow in Worthing over the last few years, and they seem fairly confident for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

7 Day Weather Forecast for Worthing - Netweather.tv

Agreed Netweather's accuracy is very reliable.

Words of advice.. NEVER, and I do mean NEVER, trust the weather report on the BBC website. Utterly hopeless, much like their sports websites.

Latest Meto Update:

Weather forecast: UKHeadline:
Rain, hill snow in southwest. Largely clear elsewhere. Widespread frost.

Today:
Cold with sunny spells for most, after early fog and frost. The far east will be cloudier however, with isolated showers. Cloudier too with some rain in Northern Ireland and southwestern Britain, with the latter also seeing further hill snow.

Tonight:
Clear spells generally allowing widespread frost and some fog patches. Cloudier in both the far west and east, with slight rain or showers, perhaps wintry on hills in the Southwest.

Tuesday:
Generally bright with a cold easterly wind and with isolated showers possible in the far south and east. Perhaps cloudier in southwestern Britain, with some rain and further hill snow.

Updated: 0406 on Mon 30 Jan 2012

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Bright but cold conditions spreading in from the east, with marked windchill and isolated wintry showers. Cloudier, milder conditions becoming limited to the far northwest. Hard overnight frosts becoming widespread.

Updated: 0406 on Mon 30 Jan 2012

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Feb 2012 to Monday 13 Feb 2012:
Turning unsettled and less cold from the northwest during the weekend as a band of rain moves across the country. There is a risk of rain falling as snow on the leading edge and also falling on frozen surfaces giving a transient widespread ice risk. Heading into the first full of week of February though, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding the forecast with a risk of the colder easterly conditions returning at least across the east and south east. The most likely scenario is for further weather systems to push in from the west but stalling over the country giving an increasing risk of snow in central and eastern parts, especially over higher ground. Temperatures probably below normal in the east but near normal at times in the west.

Updated: 1113 on Mon 30 Jan 2012

UK Outlook for Tuesday 14 Feb 2012 to Tuesday 28 Feb 2012:
Some cold weather looks likely during this period, with both daytime maximum and night-time minimum temperatures likely to be below or well below average at times. Rainfall amounts should be around average in northern areas, with some snow at times here. Further south rainfall is likely to be above average with some prolonged spells of rain possible, with also a risk of some significant falls of snow. Sunshine amounts will probably be around or slightly above average

Interesting 06z model in terms of snow for the SE

the 06z ensemble show much more agreement, and some incredibly cold air on the way.

Netweather predicting 85% - 95% risk of snow this weekend...hmm - lets wait & see...Poor old US is going to get a pounding if it's correct...otherwise if we end the winter without any snow, then some of the other soothsayers on here may have to bow to his superior weathering knowledge

I don't think US will care much to be honest, he has visited the NSC Dignitas Clinic.

Models seem to now be in agreement on the deep cold being cut off over the upcoming weekend, with high pressure establishing over southern Britain.

The next 3-4 days are going to be bitterly cold though, with a very cold airmass (-12 to -15C at 850hpa) and a cold surface flow.

The latest GFS seems to indicate an increasing likelihood of convective snow driving inland from the East coast as the wind picks up (possible streamers), but these are very dependant upon the wind stength, direction, temp differential between the sea and the air and also air pressure, so who knows.

This could turn out to be a very cold but dry spell down here, which is good to kill off bugs and germs but little else.

Come the weekend, there is also a chance of a wintry breakdown as fronts attempt to push NW to SE across the UK, and come up against the remnants of the very cold air still over southern England.

We shall see... at least it won't be mild

very, very, very light snow in BN2
