January 1987. Monday 12th was the coldest recorded daytime maximum on the Sussex coast.

That Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday saw a foot of snow at my parents home in a Brighton suburb, the North Downs including Biggin Hill and Essex saw 2 feet of snow.

From 1:00:

Thankyou!

Xmas 1981 was a white Xmas, even on the Sussex coast, going by the snow that had accumulated nicely over the preceding days with biting temperatures.
I remember that Christmas quite vividly because

1. We went tobogganing on the hill at the bottom of Devils Dyke on Christmas day and.
2. We (my sister and I) got an Atari console for Christmas.

They don't make Christmases like that anymore

Looks that way but no sign of any snow yet.

EDIT: Net Weather suggesting a snow shower or two for Saturday evening?

So do I, as I chopped the top of my thumb off in the porch door - my parents had a mare trying to drive to the hospital, with me in the back screaming, to get it sewn back on!

Part of the reason for the UK to have less snow in winter compared to mainland Europe apart from global warming is because the ocean surrounding us warms the weather fronts approaching us.
Sadly, the Atlantic also cools us slightly compared to mainland Europe, in the summer, so it is rarely as hot here as in Paris or Berlin.

I remember that winter well; one of the coldest and snowiest ever. I was going out with a woman from Falmer village, and we went for a walk across the frozen pond!

New year 78/79 was amazing snow! Met a few nurses in the town and they invited us back to the RSCH halls to continue the merriment. When we finally emerged onto Eastern Road there was six inches of snow! Taxi had to dump us just past Fiveways and then the mad trudge to Hollingbury.

It's going to feel bitter up to Mon/Tues next week with a small chance of snow at this stage. There is a LP in the Atlantic that is causing the models problems as they don't know how to handle the battleground, as in how far up over the Country it will go, if at all. Take this mornings runs for example, they were showing alot of snow for southern UK and the ensembles were all in a tight pack. Now on the 06z GFS run, about half the ensembles are showing the LP to go up through us and brings (maybe) briefly mild air and rain. So, until they are consistent as to what is going to happen to this LP then take any output beyond 5 days with a massive pinch of salt.

Likewise, the 45ghz CPS ensembles escalated well below the LP and SCP showing serious mayhem in the Atlantic sphinctospheres

I've never seen a white Christmas yes, white boxing day and a few days before but never seen snow fall on Xmas day and that includes the 15 years I've been in the Midlands
I'll always remember my first white Christmas. Being an Aussie, it was pretty unforgettable. It was in Canberra, so middle of summer, noticed something that wasn't rain falling from the sky. Dashed out the front door of my grandmother's and stuck my hand out, and a perfectly formed little snowflake landed in my hand. Promptly melted, as did the rest of it as soon as it hit the ground. But that one little snowflake meant it counted as a white Christmas.
