Well I have studied this at length too.

It looks like some black lines and massive arrows are heading out way.

And you don't want to get stuck under one of those massive black numbers that are floating around either. They would block out the sun for hours!

What are you measuring on?

I've got an Oregon Scientific sensor in the back garden - reading 3C &
a Vion one at 1.8m on the north side of the house - reading 3C

So, they agree that here it's 3C.
Just one of those electric battery ones, nothing to high tech but the met office observations seem to agree with my readings.

What the hell is that?

It is:

1. A precipitation forecast, including precipiation type and intensity (see key on right)
2. For next Saturday
3. Based upon the most recent GFS (American) forecast model output
4. Shows heavy snow over the Midlands (and most of England).

So, a conveniently UK shaped bulge is going to reach out like the finger of death from Siberia leaving areas to the North and South completly unscathed?

How can they predict something like this over a week in advance?

1. It's not UK shaped. The snow is only over the land because with sea temps around the UK at 7-11C it will be mainly rain (blue colours) over the sea, so it appears convenient, but it's not.

2. the can forecast all they like, but it's not any guarantee that it'll be right. The GFS runs to 14 days, the first half is what is know as hi-res, and the rest low-res, which means that it's not to be trusted.

Unless we're under a mahoosive High pressure system I'd rarely trust a forecast beyond 5 days*

* although with the use of ensemble forecasts this can be extended.

thats what they have Weather Models for...to predict whats coming, they can predict weeks if not months in advance but as we all should know by now its the prediction of the next 24hours that is best.

If one were feeling :fishing: one might start a thread, asking what would happen if the match gets snowed off?

I'd rather not work people up into a lather just yet... let's keep it to us Meteorological types for now. I don't trust GFS beyond 5 days.

How can they tell its definetly going to be pink. Why, it could be any old colour, they`re just guessing.
