According to today's Times El Nino (The Nino) is particularly strong this year.
It'll be dragging 'warm' air around for the rest of this year, giving us plenty of wind and rain but no cold.
Unfortunately it has a sting in it's tail and when winter finally hits in 2016 it'll be 2010 levels of snow.

The express is toning things down. Worst in 5 years? Is that all, it usually sets the stall at 100 or at the worst, 'in living memory'.
Aside from snow, anyone know of a website that shows *live* satellite pictures of UK cloud cover? The weather around here can vary enormously from coast to coast, and it would be great to know whether to head north, south, east or west for walking and photography.

To translate El Niño in full gives 'the kid'. I have experienced the one in 1997 for 7 weeks. Cycle toured 2000 miles from Vancouver to LA along Pacific Coast. Being an El Niño year the normal Autumn NE dry winds that should have pushed us along turned into SW headwinds bearing incessant rain. It was torrential but warm. Went through the State of Oregon without seeing more than 50 yards in front. Took 1500 miles before we got some sun. Great trip but probably worth checking out for El Niño.
Scientists have as much proof that it will lead to snow in Western Europe as [MENTION=3734]Giraffe[/MENTION] 's fluffy dog. Statistics have not shown any correlation from previous El Niño's. Although it obviously disrupts weather in the whole Pacific area with a set pattern there is not a set pattern of disruption for the Atlantic and even further afield. So it may snow very heavily, may be warm and dry, may be warm and wet or bits of all of them. El Niño will be to blame for which one it is.

Is there any chance it will fall below 60f daytime soon ? It is nearly mid November after all
