Can't wait now, tickets should be in the post very soon. 2-1 england I think. Convicts to have their obligatory win at lords, england to win at cardiff and headingley, edgbaston and oval will be draws.

Australia - batting is good but not flawless, bowling is utter shite.

Brett Lee (AVG 30 per international test wicket, 20 with the bat) - Consistent 90+mph bowling, has a mix of aggression and swing.

Mitchell Johnson (AVG 28 per international wicket, 31 with the bat) - again, 90+mph consistently, great ability to swing the ball both ways at great pace.

Peter Siddle (AVG 27 per international wicket) - useful Glenn McGrath type bowler, hits a consistent length and line at a decent pace

Stuart Clark (AVG 22 per international wicket) - Again, a good bowler who has good variation.

Nathan Hauritz (AVG 32 with the ball) - Remains to be seen about his ability but he span he ball and cause the Lions on a deteriarating wicket.

I Don't mean to stick up for them but its total bullshit that you think that bowling attack is shit, then again your a ill informed little wippersnapper so it doesn't surprise me at all.

Was at Hove for 1st & final days of the Tour Game. I don't want to diss Carl Hopkinson but he can't get into the current Sussex 1 or 4 Day sides and he hit a Century against the Aussies so their attack is nothing special - Lee in particular bowled a load of short pitched cack. Don't know about Mitchell Johnson as they rested him but he can't do it all on his own....

As for Nathan Horrorwitz - if there has been a worse 'spinner' selected for Australia then I would like to know who he was. 158 runs conceded for 1 wicket FFS.

Overall England are probably not as good as they were in 2005 but I suspect Australia are far worse, without Hayden, Gilchrist, Warne or McGrath.

I'll put my 50p on England 2-1 - shame so few will be able to watch it thanks to that nice Mr Murdoch:angry:

Big blow if Lee is not fit. Their attack will really have an inexperienced look to it if thats the case. I still think they will play Hauritz. Cardiff will be low and slow and both teams will struggle to get 20 wickets I reckon. Should be a cracking series, got tickets for Lords and Edgbaston so am hoping for some cracking cricket.

POT - KETTLE - BLACK

Anyone with even a remote understanding of cricket will tell you the Aussie attack is SHITHOUSE compared to their 2005 team. I don't think by any means that this will be a walk in the park but since 2005 they have lost the guy who has been the best seam bowler in the world over the past 10 years, the best spin bowler in the world possibly ever, and the best keeper/batsmen in the modern game.

The people who have come in to replace them would not necessarily get into the England side this time, that is the big difference. Last time even a 50% fit McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist would have walked into the England side.

As I have said on another thread, our side is undoubtedly not as strong as it was in 2005 bt for me, their side is much worse than it was 4 years ago. I will be very disappointed if we do not win back the urn this series

Seems that Brett Lee is carrying a rib injury that could keep him out for two test.

The current rumour is that he could be out for two tests or maybe the whole series. But it sounds like that is coming form the Aussie press, so who knows whether it's true or not. Personally I'd like to see him in the team.

I can't imagine it'll capture the imagination like the last home Ashes series. That was very special, not just winning, but winning against the best test team in the world for the past 20 years having been one test down, and in a very sportsmanlike manner. Mind you, that'll go down as one of the greatest ever test series so perhaps I'm being unfair even comparing 2009 with 2005.

This year, it's not even on terrestrial telly (except a highlights programme on C5) and the teams are both crap compared to 4 years ago. Still, looking forward to it.

if its a close series i think it will, people are generally more cricket aware after the 2005 series, i mean before that , there was a whole generation who didnt know what it was like to win a series against them ffs!
