Where did I say that?

Thats the only conclusion I can draw UB.

If its a choice between keeping football 'pure' (whatever that means) and Brighton staying up, I'm prepared to make some noise tommorrow.

Sometimes the Argus gets unjustifiably slaughtered on this site - this is one of those occasions.

Withdean is a morgue and we have lost our last six games - we need our players to come out fighting and there is more chance of that if there is an atmosphere in the stands.

It's not a choice of hooters or singing. Isn't it better to have both?

I agree. I'm not a fan either of the whole 'new generation' footbell supporter, but Withdean is an extraordinary place and this is an extraordinary match in that we really HAVE to win it.

I don't think anybody's questioning Albion fans, away games speak for themselves, but the atmosphere has ALWAYS been shite at Withers and any attempts to improve it must be applauded.

(I'm sure people won't mind if the hooters have 'Play-off Final 2004' on. :jester: )

I have never said I want us to go down. Stop using your opinion as fact there are enough self righteous bods on there that do that.

My point is chanting and the like should be and always was spontaneous and this giving out whistles and the like is just another example of how the game is being sanitised.

It's not a choice between making noise tomorrow and relegation. If we get relegated it will not be because we didn't cheer loud enough at Withdean it's because of the players not performing and the manager not doing anythnig about it.

In an ideal world yes, but many people feel tommorrow needs to be an exception.

No not hooters.

Why don't people just sing?

But then rather than giving out shinny instruments to help the 'Sky Generation' through the game, why don't people go down that tried and tested route of all singing the clubs traditional and simple chants? No need for the whacky ones that only a few know, but things like Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, Albion, or cries of Seagulls or GOSBTS.

Keep it simple, keep it loud.

Exactly, Nanny state and now Nanny football club, Simon says.... we should have enough feeling in us to cheer the team on.

Will the stewards be briefed to let us blow hooters?

All those who went to Preston would have heard the BHA fans singing "Can you sing without your drum" to the PNE fans.

Now the LC fans will sing to the BHA fans "Can you sing without your hooter", which, quite frankly, is gay.

HOOTERS?

f'sake.

Where will it end? Cheerleaders? A stupid arse mascot? Music when we score? The announcer saying "and at number 13 today...Brighton fans EVERYWHERE!"

Never mind HOOTERS. I'm looking forward to seeing Safeway's BALLBAG and Trotster's BAPS if McCammon scores the winner.

I don't think you can artificially generate an atmosphere in this way by saying "C'mon let's all sing." Just like a great night out, the best ones are spontaneous, not where we are all told we are going to have a great time.

I don't argue with the sentiment, but it's not how an atmosphere is generated. It's in the mood of the crowd, the mood of the crowd for Reading was right, we were fired up for various reasons, such as the telly and the return of Steve Coppell.

Personally, I think the best atmosphere's at Withdean have been generated by a shocking referee, 'coz that fires us up, we all get angry and start shouting and singing.

Nice idea Argus, but it just doesn't get manufactured in that way. Personally I think we are all concerned enough about the current sitiuation, that anything other than a shambolic display on the pitch WILL see us singing and shouting most of the afternoon, as we are feeling wound up enough to do it.

Some football managers slap their players in the face just as they go out on pitch to get them fired up. Maybe we should do that to the fans, hitting the old people extra hard coz it takes more to get them excited?

It is a shame that things like this have to be set up. But until areas of standing are brought back it is very hard make a good atmosphere. So stunts like this have to be brought in to make some noise. Bring back standing and bring back the noise with it.
