The Arcade Fire

I notice they got the nod from Uncut as Album of the year, I've heard a couple of tracks but can't say I've been blown away. That said I trust Uncut, often buying off of the back of their reviews and rarely being disappointed.

However, the bloke out of Coldplay loves them and that's enough to put me right off shelling out a tenner.

So, NSC, the question is:

Anyone got the album and is it any good?

n.b. I know all about limewire et al but the quality of downloads isn't a patch on the real thing - OK for getting a taster but for full blown listening experience you can't beat 'proper' recordings

Yes I do have it and yes it is definitely worth purchasing. It works incredibly as an album, the songs on their own do stand up to.

Plus the album sleeve is probably the nicest I own.

I'd buy it, it's in my top 3 of the year.

others in the Chappers top 3 being?

To these ears there hasn't been an out and out album of the year but today the 'three' would be LCD Soundsystem, The National & My Morning Jacket

with a soft spot for parts of The Super Furries, Kanye West, Gorrllaz and good old Robert Plant's offerings

There were some great albums out this year. LCD Soundsystem is great, Tiefschwartz, Super Furries, White Stripes, Gorillaz, The Go! Team all good. LCD came with an extra CD of their singles prior to the album. Try and get this as it opens with the classic 'Losing My Edge'.

I have also just gone and completed the Bowie Berlin trilogy....Low, Heroes and Lodger. Great stuff.

'Losing My Edge' is good, but it's 'Yeah (Crass Version)' that really gets everyone moving when he plays live though.

True, I cannot dispute that. Always goes down a storm in clubs as well.

The lyrics and theme behind Losing My Edge are great though.

Missed 'The National' gig - WORK  , I'm making sure that there will be no such problems getting in the way of My Morning

anyway, the universal high opinion on the The Arcade Fire album has overcome my concerns over the Chir Martin fanboy issue and I've duly ordered it

On Vinyl - sweet

Magic Numbers is my album of the year so far by a big margin.

I'd also recommend the We are Scientists album which is on heavy rotation on my ipod at the moment.

Arcade Fire - great stuff, No 1 in my purchases this year!

Magic Numbers:p :smokin: they should just be called The Magic Rounabout and they can all act like Dylan.

Kaiser Chiefs also a great one this year, and also X&Y by Coldplay!

Anyway - isnt it time to discuss the current political/religious devide in Ireland - should keep the thread going for a while!

Anyway as Bono said

And let me tell you something
I've had enough of Irish Americans
Who haven't been back to their country in 20 or 30 years
Come up to me, and talk about the resistance
The revolution back home
And the glory of the revolution
And the glory of dying for the revolution
f*** the revolution!

They don't talk about the glory of killing for the revolution
What's the glory in taking a man from his bed
And gunning him down in front of his wife and children
Where's the glory in that?

Where's the glory in bombing a rememberence day parade
Of old age pensioners their medals taken out and polished up for the day
Where's the glory in that?

To leave them dying, or crippled for life, or dead
Under the rubble of the revolution
That the majority of the people in my country
Don't want

It's just so different from so much of the current crap out at the moment.

Definitely one of the Best Albums Of The Year.

PS - I all rate the latest Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Album 'Howl' - talk about a change of direction.
