All clubs have sold players who went on to be legends elsewhere. At the Albion we are no different, Dean Saunders for £60,000 to Oxford, who sold him a year later for a million, Eric Young for £100,000 and he too went for a mill a couple of years later etc.
My nomination is Ian Muir. Younger NSC'ers may never have heard of him. He joined from Birmingham on a free transfer at the start of the 1984/5 season. He was strong, quick, and scored for fun in the reserves, but for some reason Chris Cattlin never gave him a run in the first team, instead sticking with the Donkey that was Mick Ferguson. Anyone who watched the reserves that season was left scratching their heads as to why Muir was continually omitted.
At the end of that season Frank Worthington left the club to become manager of Tranmere, and his first signing was ........Ian Muir from the Albion.
He scored 180 goals in 8 seasons and is still Tranmere's all time record scorer.
