Ah yes, Eric Potts. Arrived the same time as Lawro. Recall the first game where the flame-haired winger shone with twists and turns and pace and saying to my Dad along the lines of 'the ginger bloke cost a fraction of Lawrenson and looks a million times better.'

Dad acknowledged this with a knowing look and said 'Early days son, early days'.

I wrote mine without seeing yours. I put Winstanley instead of Cross I would imagine you're right

Great thread especially seeing those who started a similar time to me.

My team would probably have been Powney (or b
Burns) henderson, Dalton, Templeman, Napier J, Turner (or Gall), Wilkinson, Lawton, Napier K, Livesey & Tawse. Bobby Smith (the 2nd) was the usual sub.

67/68, the unlucky George Dalton had his only season cut short by a broken leg. Glad to see Charlie Livesey before he left.

Cannot remember but I'd imagine it was something like:
Kuipers
Watson, Cullip, Wicks, Mayo
Brooker, Oatway, Carpenter, Rogers
Zamora, Steele

ex QPR? (him, and not his girlfriend)

Mary Stavin I believe. Only problem was that whilst he was seeing her, so was George Best!

My first team was

Grummitt
Tiler
Rollings
Burnett
Wilson
Horton
O'Sullivan
Towner
Mellor
Binney
Piper

Think that was it, was against Halifax in 1976. 1-0. Next game I saw was 5-0 against Peterborough. Between the sticks for them was one Eric Steele.

What a great team, and that game, together with the Ipswich game are two of my all time favourites from the Goldstone.

What has been good for me in this thread, is being reminded of some really great players who I had forgotten, that played for the club.
Players like George Dalton, Nobby Lawton from your team, Graham Cross, Geoff Sidebottom, Dennis Burnett and Fred Binney, the list goes on with some great Albion memories included.

The only way I could work out what year it was, is that they played in Blue with white sleeves and I remember Charlie Liversey playing, what game haven't a clue.

Sorry, I don't know why I wrote 'Eric'! I knew it was Gerry, I was agreeing with him! Crikey, I think I'm getting old.

1978 versus Blackburn Rovers (which is why I've always had an irrational dislike of Rovers)

Could have been Mosley, Catlin, Winstanley, Horton, Mellor, Maybank, O'Sullivan, Sayer, Lawrenson, Ryan, Ward

Something like that. Total guess.

Easy mistake to make. Funny now to think that we had two "Erics" at the club around 1978...
