My first match was against Bristol City in March 1960 -we won 5-1 in the days when our forwards could actually score. The team Hollins, Bisset, Little. Bertolini, Tiddy, Calyton, Jones, Curry, Jennings, Abiss, Little.

I still have the programme - it asks fans in the South Stand to be cautious about where they throw their fag ends, as there have been several recent small fires! Good old days!!

Blimey, can't remember. And for me there's a difference between the first Albion game I saw at the Goldstone, (sometime in early 1966) and the first time I went as an Albion fan (sometime around 1970).

Back of the North Stand
It would have been something like:

Digweed
Gatting
Young
Ramsey
O'Reilly
Smillie
Wilson
Penny
Connor
Saunders
Fashanu

Maybe:

Ryan
Biley
Ferguson
Pearce
O'Regan

I remember that season, it was the season we beat Rotherham 6-0 in a second replay at Highbury. Arsenal fans supporting Brighton as Rotherham had knocked Arsenal out in the previous round. What a great night that was Mike Tiddy and Freddie Jones tore them apart down the wings, who were both ex Arsenal players.

Hate to be pedantic but the W formation wasnt about pre about 1959 and BHA like all teams played 2 Full backs (no 2 & 3) 2wing halves with centre half in the middle (no 4, 5, 6) 2 wingers 2 inside forwards abd a centre forward (no 7 - 11).

Your team lined up
Eric Gill no 1
Des Tennant or Tom Bissett no2
Jimmy Langley no 3
Steve Burtenshaw or Don Bates no 4 someimes Des played there.
Ken Whitfield no 5
Glen Wilson no 6
Dennis Gordon no 7
Albert Munday no 8
Peter Harburn no 9
Denis Foreman no 10
Frankie Howard no 11

From memory (1978)

Steele

Williams
Rollings
Winstanley
Cattlin

O'Sullivan
Horton
Lawrenson
Sayer

Ward
Maybank

Sounds about right, could be one or two wrong.
My first game was November 1976. Some of the same players as you but not Steele, Williams, Lawrenson, Sayer or Maybank...?

Grummitt? Tiler? Towner? Mellor?

That would be 1969/70 season if that is Willie Bell who shoved off to Birmingham with Freddie Goodwin, Bell was only with us one season.

1-0 v Bristol Rovers

Att: 8,732

Memories: Tiddy putting the ball on to the roof of the South Stand when in the penalty area. It got stuck and a new ball was required.

Pos: 16th Division 2 (better position than this season in January)

Final position: 22nd relegated in the last place

Then it got worse!

Is that 1976? Steve Piper and Gerry(?) Fell are familiar names but they, understandably, made less impression on me than most of the others...

What was your first season team?

We had a 'W' formation in the first half of the season, but I don't think it had anything to do with football. :lolol:
