For every Moises Caicedo there has been a Billy Arce. You can afford lots of Billy Arce’s to find the Moises Caicedo. Baleba and Joao Pedro alone is £200m worth of players. Add in £50m+ (at least) for Van Hecke and you’ve covered just 2024’s summer spend already. That’s before you’ve spoken about Bart, Mitoma or others. Stop worrying.
And let's be honest, there's a club in Manchester who appear more desperate than ever for a quality goalkeeper and have very, very deep pockets.

Yeah we’ve been absolutely terrible on the football pitch for so long. I’m so sick of seeing Brighton & Hove Albion in the top ten of the Premier League. In the last eighteen months the only decent clubs I’ve watched us beat are Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Ajax, Marseille and Roma. I’m sick of the way we haven’t improved at all in the last ten years, and everybody know success comes in a dead straight, unwavering line without any blips or wobbles along the way. The football model is terrible and we should change it immediately.
You've missed the point of the OP's post altogether. Nobody's saying we're not doing great at the moment (including the OP) - we are doing well, better than Brighton and Hove Albion have ever done. We did, however, make a big policy change in the summer, shelling out the sort of money we've never got anywhere near before, and we don't yet know how successful it's going to be.
One thing's for certain with the players we've bought in - we're not going to be selling them on in a year or two for ten times what we paid for them - or even three or four times - like we did with the likes of Caicedo, Mac, Cucu, White, etc.

I do find certain individuals read a post and draw out these key words:

We’re
SHIT
We should
Win
All
The
Time.

You know the words, that for the most part aren’t actually in the post at all 😂

Apparently I’ve written off MO’R … hmmm no, the point being he’s probably worth what we paid for him and always will be !! He’s a very good PL player, but do we have a resale value if he can’t repeat this SPL numbers ? I’m not a betting man but I suspect that’s a BIG ask/leap of faith… that’s the game I guess and occasionally it’ll pay off but we are entering differing times where our splurge might not be viewed as entirely prudent.

Just because we have sold players it doesn't mean we are a "selling club" or actively looking to sell.

How many of the big money departures were actually sold because the club wanted to sell them?

If they wanted to stay they would have stayed.

The players wanted to leave and we maximised the fee - a big difference.

I don't think we made a 'big policy change' at all. We still invested in young players with growth potential - we were just in a position, through good previous management, to take (opportunistic) advantage of timing given other club's issues with PSR compared with our financial/PSR headroom and pile of cash. It's a continuation of our existing strategy, but the numbers are getting bigger. I would bet this was planned a very long time before the summer window.

he's not replying to the OP, he was replying to an utterly ridiculous opinion by someone else.

Anyone who blindly Trusts The Process is in for a rude awakening sure as eggs is eggs. Kind of crap Potter used to come out with, and a bit worrying that new guy is coming out with it too
What are the advantages of distrusting the process or trusting the lack of a process?

But PL football is business? It ceased being a sport in the traditional sense long ago.
I think it's both.

Football – the sport – is played on the pitch and (not beating the dross) it's great for Brighton fans at the moment.
Football – the business – is all about getting the finances to acquire the type of players that allow for the great on-pich action as we've seen this season and in the past few seasons (on and off, obvs).

One cannot (does not) exist without the other. IMO, like.

I must admit I don't feel comfortable discussing the financial side of the club. I always just assume that people with far better knowledge and understanding than me know what they're doing. If we spend a lot on one player, it's not my money so I'm not going to worry about it. Besides, Tony's been right for a very long time now and I've seen nothing so far to shake my trust in him.

I don't think we did make a massive policy change this summer. We bought 8 players, of which 4 are under 21 and 2 have gone straight on loan. The other 4 are age 22-24, so still not the finished article. It's not that different from previous seasons, where we've bought 2-3 players that you'd expect to go straight into being regular starters and others that are for development, either with the club or out on loan. The difference is the scale of the transfers and us buying younger players that aren't as under the radar.

I wish I'd read this before posting almost the exact same thing an hour later!

You have point here, if you listen to the recently posted Barber interview he clearly says we decided to compete within the rules and not simply buy success which implies TB has the means if he wanted to.
I do think the business model has been tweaked and we have notched up the transfer fee level which means these players are signed to stay rather than be sold.
I believe we have now decided to build a settled side as really it is the only way to compete in this league.
It has took us 8 seasons of ups downs, transfers in and out to get us to this point.
The promoted clubs that look at us for a model try to do it to fast and get relegated.

The only thing I’d say about this, whilst I agree with your overall points, is that I think there’ll be a retraction in spend over the next 2-3 years as clubs adapt to the new financial rules. I don’t think we’ll see many, if any, of the £100m+ deals.

The model is part of how the club has been evolved and it will continue to change over time as we evolve. The luck we had finding a few brilliant players is not something totally entrenched in our existence its actually something new , we really were a buying team for the first 2-3 years of our PL experience. We then got some decent players at good prices and turned them into diamonds which then created a myth about our super process. Teams like Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea have had brilliant academies for years. We now have to adjust again because a) more teams are looking at what we did b) we have a lot of players now so getting them to star is difficult and therefore impacts potential transfer fee c) FFP will possibly mean we won't see another £100m player for a long while.

……….wages will likely fall as well, which means we have more chance of keeping our crown jewels. Hence the splurge last summer - it was a unique opportunity to build a squad for the next few seasons.

Yep, we are having a rubbish season and going backwards at pace. Do not trust the process and Albion model. Bin it now
Yep, I am tired of buying and selling all these players and constantly battling relegation.

Why cant we have a crack at a European place. Sack the board!!

Am I right that your post can be distilled down to 'I'm concerned that not all our players are developing into potential £50m+ sales, and therefore the model is at risk'?

Because if so, that's always been true. None of the following left us for big money : Connolly, Ostigard, Gyokeres, Molumby, Alzate, Clarke, Baluta, Normann, Mlakar, Zeqiri, Tau, Kozlowski, Karbownik, Leonard and loads of others I can't remember.

It doesn't matter though because you only need the odd Caucedo, Cucurella and White, with a few Burn/Maupay/Gilmour type sales sprinkled in, to stay ahead of the curve

The OP seems to suggest we should be concerned because only 7 of our players are likely to go for big money (+ Baleba, because who was forgotten about in th e analysis).

I am struggling with this.
