However, we must be the only venue in the World that can have 10% higher ticketing income & a corresponding 30% drop in Catering income. That £500k drop should/could have been a £170k increase pro rata.
An £670k opportunity loss/drop is appalling & must be addressed

When did the new caterers kick in? Or are people spending so much on tickets they can't afford catering? Or has the lack of Saturday home games last year cost us?

£625k a year for a role as director (I assume it's Barber) of a loss-making company with £24 million turnover is extremely well-paid - you would look to cut that cost in a non-football business as it's totally disproportionate to the impact that one employee can have on the balance sheet.

But football doesn't operate according to normal financial rules - the head of the player's union receives nearly a million a year - so Barber probably seems good value to Bloom.

Barber IS well paid, but (after TB, and the manager) he is almost certainly the most important person employed by the club. I'm pretty happy that we have someone of Barber's quality as CEO. If it mreas paying in excess of half a mill, then so be it.

Albion has seen its operating profits soar by 76% over the past 12 months but the club has still posted a multi-million pound loss.

The Seagulls have published their annual accounts showing that operating profit rose to £11.9 million allowing finance bosses to increase the football budget by just under £1m to £20.7m.

Other reasons to be cheerful include an increase in turnover by £600,000 to £24 million and operational costs dropping by just under a third to £12.1 million.

The positive figures means the club’s annual net loss dropped from £15.3 million to £10.6 million over the past 12 months up to June last year.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber said the figures were a “significant improvement” on the previous year’s figures but said the club still relied on the “generosity” of chairman Tony Bloom.

The figures include a £1.7 million profit in player trading including the sales of Liam Bridcutt to Sunderland and Ashley Barnes to Burnley during the previous January transfer window but does not include the £8 million summer sale of Leo Ulloa to Leicester City.

The club’s improved financial performance means the Seagulls have complied with the Football League’s Financial Fair Play requirements and won’t have to face a transfer embargo.

Last month Championship rivals Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers were told they would be placed under a transfer embargo for the rest of the season after they incurred losses in excess of £8 million.

Albion’s accounts have now been filed with Companies House and the Football League and the club say they have taken the "unique step” of making the accounts available to all supporters via the website.

In a statement, Mr Bloom said: "I want to take this opportunity to look back on our first three years at the American Express Community Stadium and to give an update on our on-going strategy for the club's future.

"By its nature, this statement is as much for our supporters as it is for our shareholders. We are all "stakeholders" in this great club – emotionally, financially or both.

"We all have a significant part to play in realising an ambition that, despite just four seasons playing at the highest level in our club's entire history, is an exciting prospect for our club, our city, and the wider county of Sussex."

Chief executive Paul Barber said: "This set of results shows a significant improvement on the previous year's annual accounts, and that is thanks to a lot of hard work by our staff to reduce our costs and boost revenues.

"The board is delighted with the reduction in our operating costs and the increase in turnover of more than £24m – thanks in no small part to the support of the fans, as we once again enjoyed the highest average attendance – but we continue to rely on the generosity of our chairman Tony Bloom.

"In addition to Tony's interest-free funding to build the American Express Community Stadium and American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, he continues to cover the club's on-going losses and is committed to funding future losses.

"Once again, on behalf of all fans, the board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tony for his incredibly generous personal support that continues to take the club forward."

But isn't that what nearly all football clubs do? Alright, so it only works if you produce players worthy of other clubs' interest, but I suppose that's a further incentive to do so. It's a legitimate source of income, surely?

An annual net loss cut by 33% since last year. That is a serious cut. The Barber bashers will focus on his salary, but for me, if he's been able to do that then we are going in the right direction.

He's saved the club over £4m (aswell as bringing money in) and got a pay rise of £170k doesn't seem to bad a deal to me. Barber does what he is paid to do and seems to do it well. I can only hope that other club employees can do as well as he has.

And all those berating his overall remunerative increase in this financial year are bloody fools. Clearly like any highly scrutinised business there will have been certain performance related criteria that would have triggered the variable element of his overall package that would definitely have had to have been proposed and agreed upon by the entire board of directors and therefore ratified by TB.

I'm sorry but all this 'we've got to have the best' is utter nonsense. There are no end of CEO's out there (on considerably less money) that are adept at cost saving initiatives and business growth.

What has Barber actually done??

Renegotiated a catering contract
Partnered up with a new kit supplier
Sourced some additional sponsorship
Sent a few emails to Bozza

Any businessmen or women worth there salt could achieve this, and they'd probably only want 100K PA for the privilege.

Nope.

Business sale (Premier Bet) as seed capital/initial source of wealth then a series of shrewd and large commercial and residential real estate investments.

Will never appear anywhere under any Rich lists as it's all squirreled away using a number of pseudonyms and corporate shells to maximise efficiency and promote security and anonymity. Suffice to say if he can sink £200m into our little enterprise and still be comfortable it is safely much much larger than anyone reports.
