Just seen that 1st-year scholar Darius Lane was called up to the US Men's U-18 side for a tournament in Japan. He started in a 4-3 defeat to Japan one week ago and came on as a sub against Peru on Monday:-

That makes 31 players who were called up for international duty in September.
I've only just seen that Lane was sent off in the match against Peru. He came on as a half-time substitute, got booked for a foul in the 67th minute and then clattered into an opponent during added on time. One Peruvian took great exception and a melee ensued. The referee showed him a yellow but seemed to forget it was his second. Lane expected the ref to produce the red, I'm sure, but with it not forthcoming he made his way back into his own half. The referee then realises it's Lane's second booking and brandishes the red card at which point a Peruvian attempts to "escort" Lane off the pitch and more shenanigans ensue.

Here's the video for anyone interested (second foul from around the 2:18:50 mark):

Lane can take his rightful place in the Albion Hall of Shame for being given his marching orders whilst on international duty!

The ones I know about:-

March 2016: Thomas Byrne (ROI U-17) [Came on with only 13 minutes to go but that was sufficient time for two bookings  ]
March 2018: Aaron Connolly (ROI U-17) [2 bookings in the space of 2 minutes  ]
January 2020: Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina U-23)
September 2020: Viktor Gyokeres (Sweden U-21) [Straight red - he was captain as well ]
October 2020: Tudor Baluta (Romania U-21) [2 bookings in the space of 10 minutes  ]
February 2024: Valentin Barco (Argentina U-23) [Throwing the ball at an opponent  ]

Remarkable
Almost no "normal" send offs

I like the sentiment, but you simply CAN'T watch the U-18s unless you physically go along to an FA Youth Cup fixture (or happen to be a scout).
I recently went to the Albion Under 18s v Arsenal game which ended 3-3.

I was hugely impressed with the quality of both teams, especially The Albion who should have been out of sight by Half Time.

How were you able to get in?
I am friends with the parents of one of the U18 players (rather not say which one to be honest) and they can take you in provided you're 'on a list' beforehand.

It's a hugely impressive setup and we have some very talented youngsters.

Albion have added to their 1st-year scholar intake (although the lad concerned may well have signed a professional contract as he celebrates his 17th birthday on Saturday - 17 is the youngest age a player can sign a pro deal).

The lad is Henry Kasvosve:-

He has spent seven years at Bristol City. I missed it at the time but the local rag reported in July that Albion were after him and they now have their man.

Kasvosve is a Welsh U-18 international - he was a teammate of our own Adam Brett in the Welsh U-17 squad that competed at the UEFA European U-17 Championships in Cyprus in May.

Kasvosve brings the 1st-year scholar group up to 15 - it was already the largest intake in the club's history (by my reckoning).

There must be lads spilling into the corridors when Inigo Calderon is trying to give his teamtalks.

(I kid, I kid).

If at first you don't succeed...

Albion 1st-year scholar Sebastian Ademola (no. 18) played the whole match today for the Norway U-17s as they beat hosts San Marino 3-0 in their second qualifying round group match (they had beaten Wales 4-3 in their first match when Ademola was an unused sub).
The win means Norway have qualified for Round 2 League A in the spring (and will have a chance of making the finals tournament next summer).

Freddie Simmonds has been called up to the England U-17 squad for two away matches against Belgium on Nov 15/18, but no Harry Howell this time.
