Will the US have another term of Obama?

Should they?

Does NSC feel that he has lived up to expectations?

In terms of an apponent Ron Paul has announced that he is running. While there is alot of bipartizanship in the US in terms of foriegn policy and economic policy, Ron Paul probably represents the only opposing view to the status quo. Could he beat Obama in 2012?

Thoughts?

After announcing he would run:

Apparently its been pretty close, last year a pole came in at Obama 42% Ron Paul 41%.

where was the poll taken, Texas? even Ron Paul thought it was fanciful, and acknowledged he's unlikly to get through the Republican primaries.

there's apparently no credible Republican candidate (though its early), so expect a second term for Obama.

I was under the impression Palin's hopes were said to be fading. Of course there's plenty of time until the next election, but from an outsider's point of view, there seems to be a fair bit less international resentment of the US since Obama took over from Bush. I'm not saying the Al Qaeda types have put down their weapons, of course not, but the US foreign policy seems to be a bit less abrasive at least. Unless you're from Pakistan I guess. And the Bin Laden thing will obviously have helped Obama no end, Bush never managed to get hold of him in eight years did he?

Still a long way to go, but at this point it looks like Obama will get another go. He could do worse than send in his special team of seals to take out Palin and do the world a favour.

I see to remember that BAs rating amonst black people in the US was quite low - I'm not sure whether they were expecting an instant turn around in their favour once a coloured guy got in the White House, that was never going to happen.

The person who wins the next US election will the one who's made the least stupid mistakes. Their electoral system is a bit of a joke, pouring millions of dollars into a campaign to select a candidate for each party and them spending millions more electing the President. Once the president is elected (as long as no member of the Bush family is involved) it then gets 'approved' by the electoral college. 56.8% of the US population voted in the last election, the highest for some years. In 1996 49.7% turned out. F.Y.I. in the last UK election 65.5% of the population voted. In 1950 83.9% of the population voted, maybe it's a sign of how disenchanted we are becoming with our political parties now.

Good point. Is the "two party system" really a one party system? You might find this interesting:

Pay special attention to 4:05 - 5:45.

Obama isn't popular with lots of people in the states, if it hadn't been for OBL he may have been a one term president.

He may well still be but I hope not. He is just about the only American politician who seems to have any real idea of what goes on outside America. Most of them seen to be a total loss to understand why the rest of the world doesn't think America is the most perfect place on earth, and why the rest of the world isn't eternally grateful that America exists.

Mind you, the President is elected by Americans, a fair chunk of whom seem to have no inkling about what happens anywhere else in the world. For such a vast place it has a lot of very insular people.
