I've just read all nine pages of this nonsense, and the most telling post of the entire thread, is right there on the first page.

You see, Tim, for some people it is not all just about 'ME', or 'this region'. We should thank Maggie, because she created an environment for upper middle class kids in the South East to prosper, at the expense of people in other communities all over Britain?

Then there are the comments about how the prosperity was open to 'all who wanted it'. Sorry but that's plainly ridiculous. Capitalism just does not, and can not, work like that. The entire concept is of a few making money out of the rest.

Why is this so difficult to understand. There is only a limited amount of a commodity (in this case money) so not everyone can have all they want, no matter how hard they work.

Let's use an analogy, say tickets for a big cup game. How about West ham?

- There's a limited number
- People want more than are available
- the underlying system is known but flawed. It's all about fairness after all!
- Some people will get what they deserve
- Many others will get more than they deserve due to contacts, history, family connections, cheating etc. In effect
- A significant proportion of good deserving individuals wont get what they deserve through no fault of their own.

So what should we say to this last category? The Thatcherite model would be to say 'tough, you had the opportunity to get yours. It's your fault for not wanting it hard enough.' or indeed some of those who've benefited more than they should may wish to extend their luck by offering to provide the commodity at an enhanced price ('market forces sir')

Luckily those with a social conscience will try and help out despite being ridiculed by the haves.

well yours appeared to have failed to teach you to apologise when you make an accusation you can't substantiate.

As for the analogy, you said that everyone can do it. It just needs belief and acumen. But the reality is that this isn't the case - there are external factors, history, society's rules, the deviousness/rule breaking of some free market entrepeneurs, the finite availability of money and wealth etc that prevent this from being true.
