My point is not to do with the mines closing down, I agree that was inevitable.
HB&B rabbits on about hard working, proud , diligent Englishmen loving her and lords it over the fact that she crushed a community in order to crush the unions!! and the fact that coppers from all over the nation made a fortune. Making money on the back of other peoples misfortune, That is her legacy.
A later poster has stated she is like 'marmite' love her or hate her!! I totally agree with that, and as I have previously stated I will never celebrate in the death of anyone. However, I will equally refuse to accept that she put the 'Great in Britain' she put the 'Greed in Britain' that still exists to this very day!!
Thank you for quoting me!
I would disagree that she put the Greed in Britain. IMO she opened up opportunities for all. We had working classes becoming entrepreneurs, home owners for their first time, free university education & the deregulation of the City - that gave the UK the best part of a 20 year boom.
That some people became greedy was down to human nature. This is a sad reflection in all economies - even in communist regimes!
The best thing about Thatcher whichever side of the political coin you sit.
She made you feel proud to be British.
I cannot think of any PM since, who has made me feel proud to be British since.
