That Nice New Tarmac'ed Footpath Running Down Past The Brighton Bound Train Line

Is that path fully finished and open, anybody know? Only after the Gills game, it led down to some kind of tunnel under the railway line that was locked shut. Is the tunnel still under construction, or do they close it at a certain time? Where does it pop out anyway, presumably one or other side of the A27 or maybe both?

Didn't matter Tuesday cos there's a sort of footpath that winds its merry unsignposted way through whatever that part of Brighton is called, and Tuesday was dry and moonlit. But would be a bit shit if it was wet and unmoonlit. And there's going to be a lot of people using that route after evening games.

Also would like to know. I cycle back this way and that big gated tunnel
leads to the bike lanes into town. Else I am weaving through Coldean and having to mount kerbs on the cut-through.

If you want the Stanmer Park and Poly side, I think you are best advised going over the bridge from The Amexand take the path on that side.
No idea about a footpath though....where does that start?

Same. The club does have some say apparently because Mendoza asked for it to be unlocked when we did Bike to the future.

It does look a bit dodgy, and overgrown. The rail might be too easy to access from the embankment there, or perhaps the main Lewes Road junction with the on/off-ramp is too open-plan to cope with milling fans or local kids from the estates. Even the tunnel itself looks a bit shabby - so I'd guess there's some safety issue for that little archway.

That gated tunnel leads to the junction where the lewes road turns into the entrance of stanmer park, or the southern water. There is a bus stop there, and the 49c used to pick up there.

As others say, carry on straight along Lucraft (the way everyone went on saturday/tuesday) and you can turn right under the second bridge, and there is a path beside the play park (willard park) that leads close to lewes road, or you can risk walking through moulsecoomb...

I did see some supporters who had walked along Lewes Rd towards Brighton and waited at the bus stops after Falmer.

Do they believe there will be room on the buses after Falmer, or are there other buses that bypass it?

I considered the idea of making my way to the Poly and getting on the train ahead of Falmer towards Lewes, but I hear the queues are moving fast enough without having to cut the train off.

Do we have enough bike stands outside the Stadium? I see they are filling up on match days - but I imagine any bit of fence will do the job if they are full.

Depending on how far they go, perhaps they are hoping to get the 24 (26?) that comes down coldean lane and along lewes road. Perhaps they think the time it takes them to walk that far the busy buses will have gone and the emptier ones will be coming along. Perhaps they expect some lazy/less mobile people who live locally will get the bus to, say, wild park or bates estate and so free up seats.

I am cycling next time. Bit of exercise and being able to leave under my own steam. Both pluses for me. I can see a lot more people deciding to cycle. It will help remove the pie.

The 1st bridge is the entrance to the schools (Stanmer, Westlain, Falmer etc) and schoiol buses used to be at the lewes road exit. maybe it's gated to stop pikeys parking 9we were playing gills!)

heading alongside the railway line is Lucraft road, the old school approach road that holds many a memory for me. If you turn right, under the 2nd bridge, you will join lewes Road at the bottom of Coldean Lane and can pick up the no 24.

If you turn left and don't go under the bridge but head up the hill you will find the terminus for the no 49, a pretty regular service to brighton and onto portslade.

If going to the ground and taking the 49 beware NOT to take the 49A which heads into Bevendean, a tidy walk over the fields to falmer.

We cycled for the first time yesterday, up and down Lewes Road, but on the Stanmer Park side, we went under the Subway and locked our bikes under the new train footbridge. However on the way back its difficult to cylce as the path back to Coldean Lane is very busy.

I love the fact the new stadium will introduce me to a little part of Brighton I do not know, could someone mark on my (up to date map) where the bike stands are, are they covered and is it possible to cycle back after a game and avoid people walking.

According to insider there are bike racks dotted around the stadium. I've not been all around the stadium, but did notice some beside the the train track opposite the club shop (there's usually an ambulance near to it) those aren't covered.

Which path back to coldean lane did you mean, the one that goes through Falmer school? I walk that way, and it's not been too busy (once you get bast the train bridge).

This shows a couple of routes through moulsecoomb to get to lewes road if you use the path through falmer school.

Gormless question of the day: If I wanted to get to Fiveways/Preston Drove area, anybody know if it would be quicker to walk up Coldean Lane (sticking to pavements) then across, rather than walk down Lewes Road then across?
