Who was at Brentford that day? (I'm still looking for footage. It must exist somewhere...)

No cameras at the game. Nelson mentions that in his autobiography.

I was lucky enough to see it though....I'll never forget it.

When I first heard about the goal shortly after joining this forum, I found it incredibly frustrating that there wasnt any footage of this often talked about goal and harassed the video nerd at the Brentford forum. No result obviously but plenty of them remembered the goal, and to remember opponent goals more than 30 years, it must have been a special one.

1987 was very much the home video era though - you'd imagine someone recorded it.

I'm glad there isn't - in case it's not as good as I remember it. But it wasn't just the quality of the goal, it was the crowd, the circumstances and so on.

As reported by John Vinicombe in The Argus “ Nelson rated his 68th minute strike as the best of his nine years in the game, and that is saying something. Albion were shading the second half when he took the ball off Keith Jones just inside Brentford's half and then proceeded to bamboozle no fewer than five defenders before unleashing that rocket-powered left foot. The ball must have been a blur to Gary Phillips as it tore into the top corner."Every time I looked up there was another defender coming at me, and I was thinking about the rollocking I would get from the lads if I missed after all that," said Nelson. Instead, the fans spilled on to the pitch to salute a memorable goal”

After all these years, it’s still the best goal I’ve ever witnessed… by anyone… not just a Brighton player.
Absolutely imprinted in my otherwise extremely patchy memory.

The pitch invasion from two sides was epic! I remember that the HOME fans were kept in after the final whistle, when it was the norm to keep in the away fans back then! Also, it was the first time i was served in a pub as a spotty 16 year old.

Great memories.
