The Old Bill made a massive mistake by not posting an overwhelming presence (i.e. about 20 of their properly equipped men) to be permanently at the South Stand turnstiles and help manage the entry of all Palace fans to the stadium throughout the evening.

Is this hindsight or would every single person posting on here making a plan have realised that (with hundreds of personnel to deploy) that was obviously a high priority....?

I am surprised that with 6 months of planning they didn't think to cover the turnstiles.

Does anyone know that they didn't?

As I've already posted, a police riot helmet comes tumbling along the ground when the apparent break-in happens.

You can. It's called Seagulls Travel and it works a treat.

Thanks. In all my years I have never used them. I shall make an enquirey

If you are kettled with 300 (say) other people, do you (a) keep the knife in your pocket and hope you don't get found, or (b) drop the knife on the floor? Easy for the items to be found not on someone.

Hopefully picked up by a copper or steward, with gloves, so the DNA isn't disturbed.

I'd be really surprised if the Palace morons had tried to storm the gates with a load of riot police there. Even they couldn't be that stupid, surely? Apart from getting banged up, they'd be risking taking an absolute beating (which they clearly weren't up for as they hid behind their police escort all afternoon).

I believe they did initially, but were distracted by flares and bangers, which was apparently a premeditated diversion to enable the wankers easier entry.

According to reports, they threw a flare at the turnstiles, which distracted the stewards, police and sniffer dogs, whilst some already inside opened a fire exit, so getting in via two different methods.

It's hardly storming the Iranian Embassy though, is it? Surely our police force are better trained than to be so easily outflanked by a bunch of spotty oiks. There was obviously an insufficient deployment of police in the turnstiles area.

Doesn't surprise me really as they are often pretty clueless. They fortunately dodged a potential problem caused by the lack of police presence at the station on arrival. Fans piling off the trains all a bit pumped up and no police whatsoever until well out from under the metal ramp area.

I'm not sure it would have mattered. The police were so inept that night they probably could have walked in waving them above their head and nothing would have happened.

Plenty of skirmishes in town tbh.

Don't think there were many involving the HF though, they seemed to stay in a big group taking photos of themselves outside the dry cleaners claiming they had taken over Brighton. The skirmishes seemed to involve the other Palace fans, not the teenagers in black.

Did it never occur to our dim-witted plod that the feeble show of strength from the Always Ultras boys brigade would be the primary source of disorder at the game? How hard would it have been to track their every move and nip any trouble in the bud at any point before they were allowed to just swarm into the Amex like the South London sewer rats that they are? Where was the pest control? ???

Bloody hell, what’s all the fuss about? Some ticketless palace fans broke in a door, some then were left outside and had a go at some stewards two of which ended up going to hospital. This was a BHA v palace game. Shit happens.
If it concerns you, don’t go to derbies. If I am mistaken (As I only read the OP) and hundreds were beaten with bricks and iron bars, and 5 year old children were left as orphans I’m sorry, and don’t get me started on the loud, bright fireworks, it’s not even bone fire night!
Talk about people with absolutely nothing else to worry about in their lives.......

You've clearly never heard of UK terrorist attacks then. This was an absolute blueprint on how to carry one out at the Amex. Blokes in balaclavas creating a diversion before forcing their way into a public arena with concealed explosives and then detonating them. Lucky it was only South London sewer rats on the day eh?

The thing that pisses me off about this is the way the OB we’re looking all mean and tuff and moody as they were liberally dispersed all the way from the station to the ground but nowhere to be seen when it kicked off. Thorough planning??? I think not!!

Yup.

Surely the whole point of such heavy police presence (and there were police from 5 counties plus the Met & BTP) was to prevent disorder. This they failed to do both inside and outside the ground. What happened to the dozens of them that were standing around on the bridge in their robocop gear giving everyone the hard stare when the trouble kicked off? They were totally useless and I hope the club has the balls to withhold payment as they clearly did not do what they were being paid to do ie prevent disorder.
