I left a scarf at an event the other day and ended up going back twice in an attempt to retrieve it (I left it in a car and it wasn't there the first time). I might not have bothered – particularly because our hosts said they would send it back to me – but it was a present from my late MIL and is a particularly nice one, so I wasn't taking any chances.
