So Glenn is going. I am gutted. Miffed beyond belief.

But I don't think you can blame him. If he ends up getting a couple of grand a week more somewhere else (even if it is Palace) then, over a three year deal that is more than £300,000. Big money for a lower league footballer.

I am confident Gus et al will replace him on the pitch and yes, I will call him all the names under the sun when he comes to play us.

But lets not kid ourselves. He has been bloody MINT for us and were it not for injuries would have hit more than 20 goals a season before this year.

Some of his goals have been breathtaking. Other performances (like Wycombe away, Southampton when we won 3v1) have been unplayable.

A swaggering, skillful striker who we are much the poorer to be without.

Right now I hate him. But he has given us more good times and memories than most over the last few years of struggle.

Not often I say this, but agree with everything you've just said. Football's not a lifelong career for most in the lower divisions, and if it's Palace where the money is then makes no difference for him, it's not as if he's a lifelong Albion fan. What gets to me more is this idea of Palace offering 8-10k a week to an unproven Championship player, after 2 administrations in 10 years. They clearly (IMO) aren't going to go up next season, and as favourites to go down, splashing that kind of money about on unproven players is only going to end one way.

:clap2::clap2: Good luck G.M. Best player down here for a good while. even the most staunch hater has got to admit an albion side without Murray this year was nowhere near as threatening as a side with him in.
I too will be pissed off if he rocks up at palace but he has been different class.

That pretty much sums it up.
If Gus goes out and gets great replacements, which I have every confidence he will, then Murray will probably be forgotten come the first game at the Amex.
Just a shame he couldn't have continued to improve with us.

This is a blow but what with Poyet saying he wants as many as eight new players this could actually end up be the most exciting summer for years.

Sorry Richie but i disagree. I DO blame him for going to Palace for a couple of k extra. Anywhere else - annoyed but fair enough. I am a loyal person. In fact, if I was offered a 25% - 30% pay rise to go to our biggest rival company I would never go. I doubt i'd go atall. If it meant moving miles away then no chance i'd go. I know i'm taking the moral high ground a tad there but i'm being honest - I am a loyal person - Murray isn't. Football breads some of these types. Simple.

Agree with all that BUT it should be noted that of £2k per week, 50% goes to taxman and at least 10% to agent so he's down to £800 per week better off. Still not to be sneezed at, after all its still £40k per year. I suspect as well as offering more money they have also offered a longer contract so you can't blame him.

BUT we could have had him if we really wanted to so all we can do is trust Gus & TB on this.

Murray will be greatly missed played well both facing goal and holding the ball up and bringing players in. Also great defensively at set peices. Maybe the only fault was that he wasn't the most clinical of players but that was getting better this season.

Never nice losing one of your better players but that's business and it's up to Gus to find a replacement (Pref better).

I'm happy to give him the plaudits for being a genuinely exciting player on his day and he has been my favourite player for a couple of years. Sorry he has decided to move on, pissed off that it may be Palace but it will certainly add some spice to the games with them.

I'm really not sure I've got it in me to boo him tbh though, I'll work on that over the next few months, maybe a bad foul on an Albion player or a trade mark dive in the box early in the game will be enough.

I can blame him! Unless he signs for a bigger club than us with with a great manager then he's an idiot. He's twisted when he shoud have stuck IMHO.

A job is not just about money and the path to success is not just about grabbing the short-term gain. He's a central figure at a club with huge momentum on and off the pitch and with one of the country's most promising and inspiring young managers - one who has single-handedly revolutionised how you play successful lower league football. And he's going to what? Palace? Southampton?

Seriously, I think he's made a boneheaded decision. I wish him the the best of luck, because he'll need it, he's taken a big old gamble.

Well said. I agree. Even Norwich would have been fine. Someone who's maybe 2 or 3 yrs ahead of where we want to be. Even Leeds dare I say it.

It is possible to agree with all that and STILL hate the greedy little f**k. Good post.

No offence but that is ridiculous. If someone was willing to pay me a lot more money for doing the same thing I would be off like a shot in much the same way as if the company no longer wanted me they would have no problem in moving me along. I very much doubt Murray gives two hoots that it is Palace he joining and has seen the money and said I'll have that- football rivalries are for fans players don't care.

Not getting in an argument with you, don't have the time , but if you'd honestly not move for a 25% pay rise then you're certainly in a minority, and fair play for that. Murray has no real connections to the club, he always seems to be out of the celebrations and so on, and certainly doesn't have the same affection as us fans do for the Albion. In terms of his life, yeah, he may recieve a few dodgy emails and dirty looks, a bit of abuse twice a season, but i'd say for another 100k a year in a short term career that's worthwhile.
As I said, I think i'm talking for the majority, that if i was offered a 25% to move firms without the need to move house, i'd happily take it. Football's different for fans, but for most players its just a job, and it's the money that matters.

I am a loyal person too. Money is not everything. For me being near my family is more important than money. Money does not make you happy, and that's a fact. If 7k a week is not enough for kicking a football around, then that's just plain greedy.

For a change I agree 100% with you Walt Jabsco. I remember what seems like a lifetime ago getting a mate along to a jpt game solely to show him Murray/Forster up front just after we signed Murray, said mate rediscovered his active Albion supporting side that night and has been a regular at withers ever since.
