It makes my heart soar to see them appreciate the effort our travelling lot went to. As was said - some things are bigger than rivalries and i think we've forged a real connection with them - more than we had anyway. My step-dad went to the Valley a lot as a kid so i've always looked out for their results, so hopefully they can reclaim their club and get back up the leagues.

Was there today and proud to stand side by side in joining the march to the ground. Was thanked by loads of charlton fans on the way so understood just how much it meant. Sad to see the desperate situation at the club and hope all your efforts make a difference. Keep faith....

Yep, I'll never forget the billboards outside Brighton station advertising free coaches to watch Premiere league football at the Valley when we were on our knees.

Trouble is there are TOO many JCL fans on here who weren't around then who don't understand the bad feeling it caused at the time.

But now we have won today it is time to move on and WISH Charlton well in their struggles

Or maybe they're bright enough to tell the difference between fans and management. Bit like difference between railway workers and railway management. Even a thickie like you should grasp it.

But what about the TROPHY we could all have a communal **** over?

If I were a Brighton fan and saw billboards as you described I would have been angry too, so Ernest your distain for the Charlton thing this week is understandable.

I wish I knew more of the back story.

I do know the club were bussing in fans from all over the place when we were any good in the dim and distant, but have always assumed they were far flung Charlton fans or neutrals. I wasn't aware we had been targetting Brighton fans to take advantage when you were at an extremely low ebb. If that is how it was it is shameful.

The business side of the club in those days was not organised by the common or garden Charlton fan however, and speaking from my own experience I have never heard our fans bad mouthing Brighton as a club, quite the reverse actually. A small group of players used to travel up from Brighton daily in Steve Browns battered old Escort, and Brighton and Hove Albion was always respected by those players as much as the fans.

In the good old days we often had very memorable matches against you too, those were the good old days of football because we had clubs like Brighton to play, and to give us great awaydays...all of that helps.

It is interesting how a single event can burn into the consciousness and shape our attitudes to other clubs. Being violently threatened at Plymouth sticks in the mind for me, yet being generously accepted by a Wolves fan after a cup thrashing is there too, and being continually harangued by a pugnacious weasel of a bloke at Wycombe has put me off them, then again the generosity of a steward at the old Highbury finding a good seat for my very little son has made me not mind Arsenal.

Perhaps now is time to put all this Charlton stuff to bed anyway and move on. My friend is a Boro fan, and you may have guessed my personal attitude to Brighton, so get automatic, and it is the play offs for Joey Barton and co.

I want you to get promoted, an easy call for me.

From my point of view you are NOT being asset stripped. This is not a change of articles of association so the chairman can benefit from the sale of the ground.

This is not blackpool. I see it as someone who wants to live within their means but wont spend spend spend (boo hoo) because you lot think you have a god given right because you were in the prem -see reading, fulham, pompey, bradford, wigan. You wanted Curbs out because you were getting fed up of top 10 finishes thinking you should be higher.

And never forget not only trying to pinch our fans when we were at gillingham but also trying to take gillinghams fans as well and when we REALLY ****ing needed the money bidding 50k for John Robinson when you sold Rob Lee for 700k. This was when tribunals favoured the buying team. 75k. Thank god a few months later Wilkinson bought Beeney.

Karma is a bitch.

Yeah, what goes round comes round as Brighton fans proved to us today.

Karma.

I missed the protest march as the train took an absolute age to get from London Bridge to Charlton. I wanted to turn up to it to help Charlton fans out after what they did for us, so was sad not to turn up. I joined in the songs, and thought the protests were well thought out and respectful of the opposition. I hadn't really looked at why it was happening.

On return home, I've had a look at the issues, and I'd like more guidance as to why the situation is so terrible. Granted, they are ****ing up the hiring of managers - Jose Riga seemed to have done quite well originally, and of course, they should have never sacked Chris Powell... but it looks like the club aren't going bust, they have spent money on players and there isn't a threat of the ground being sold from underneath them.

Again, not saying everything in the garden is rosy, it's clearly not, but it would be good to hear from some people who know/are passionate as to why it's got so bad.
