Cant beat West Street on a Saturday night in the summer.
Brilliant city Brighton.
OK, sure, needs the mother of all hosedowns.
But a brilliant place to live
This. I've lived in Brighton since 1980 and still feel like I'm on holiday. Love my adopted home town, wouldn't live anywhere else now

No, me and Miss.Punal, as she was then, moved to London because of a job promotion. We rented a shitty one bedroom flat and then moved to Southampton, close to Miss P’s family as a junior Punal was about to enter the world.
We both vowed that we would move back to B&H as soon as we could. Our biggest regret was that we never did.
As an aside, Mrs.Punal went to Brighton College of Ed. (?) to train to be a teacher. The irony is that where she attended lectures in Falmer is probably where the West Stand Lower bars are now!
And, yes, Finn Hopson’s work is wonderful. I will definitely be acquiring more in the future.
Today, this glorious sunny day, me, Mrs.Punal and Maisie our dog paid a visit to our old stomping ground. Acting like complete tourists we walked down the prom, onto the beach and ate and drank in one of the outside bars at the Kings Road arches.
I must admit the old place has changed a bit over the years, for the better I reckon, but still retains “a town that seems to be assisting police with their inquiries” image.
Apart from having a jolly day out our main purpose was to collect a beautiful photographic image of the West Pier entitled “Sidelong Glance” by Finn Hopson at Brighton Photography. A well deserved plug - I hope no one objects!
So after doing the eating, meeting, greeting bits we headed home the long way round. I’ve never done this route before but headed to Rottingdean, then through Woodingdean up Falmer Road and saw the amazing site of the Amex in all its sunlit glory. It was indeed a memorable sight.
All in all a grand day out. Thanks Brighton!![]()
I get to drive past the Amex almost every day [emoji16][emoji119]

Lovely stuff. It's "stamping ground" by the way.
Lived in Brighton for twenty years before shuffling West slightly. Went into town yesterday as it happens. North Laine was rammed with talent. A beautiful sight.
I bow down to your superior knowledge but I've always known it as stomping ground
Nearly everyone says stomping, but yeah it's stamping. It's of little consequence really but it's nice to be accurate. People have been getting it wrong for so long, they are interchangeable now so it's not wrong really.
At least you both got North Laine right![]()
I'm not in the habit of being wrong.

When did Mrs P do her teacher training? My dad was at Brighton College of Education doing his training between 1967 and 1969. He majored in English, but did a Minor in Geography. It's because of this that I can claim to be a (baptised at least - All Saints, Patcham) Brightonian. I should have been born at Buckingham Road, but Mum had worked as an orderly at the Zachary Merton Hospital in Rustington, so I was born there instead. We left in 1970 when I was only a year old, and we haven't been back since, other than for trips and me for football. Ironically, the house we lived in is no more either, as its site lies under the A23/A27 flyover at Patcham.
Another plug from me. There are a couple of Hopsons on my wall as I speak. He has an amazing knack of taking otherwise banal subjects (the Downs, West Pier… ) and turning out totally unexpected, stunning interpretations. Great work, and a very decent guy too.But also great purchase: Finn Hopson does some wonderful stuff. His photos of the Downs are gorgeous.
