How would Tony Blackburn have got round that one?

”And at Number Two this week a stirring tribute to the IRA” 🙈
No doubt the song would have been banned by the BBC, and the chart rundown would have been the same as it was for June 1977 with the Sex Pistols banned God Save The Queen, a visual run down with a picture of the artist and their name, but no commentary and no song title.

And of course no TOTP performance as banned.

I doubt Tony Blackburn, or any other TOTP presenter who has presented the show since Tony left in 1983, would have had much to worry about. The song got to number 2 in the iTunes chart, the BBC go by the official chart which it doesn't even make the top 100. A complete non story from The Argus.

I'm glad they dumped TOTP years ago, it was just dire top 10 mime acts. It also has a history of ignoring anything too political or controversial.

Correct. Official chart is based on radio plays, streams and downloads.

Some of the people in that article have a fair point. This song is not about the Northern Ireland terrorist IRA, the provos, it's about the ORIGINAL IRA who fought for Irish independence and effectively won.
It was ironic the English Sky presenter saying the Irish girls need "to be educated" on history. We have a completely biased one-sided view of British history regarding Ireland and who and why there was an original IRA.
