Like derrr!

Imagine that your father is in fact your girlfriend. Oedipus Scmoedipus I hear you say, but bear with me. Quite why this is instrumental in the second part of the sentence (sic) is beyond my ken but it seems to be a key part of the process.

They're obviously a paid by the question philosopher and someone has asked them how much they charge.

Now, the philosopher has to think and give a reply BUT by doing so are they actually entering into a contract to 'ask the philosopher a question' or is it a classic 'invitation to treat' so beloved by law of contract specialists. This is the dilemma that so befuddled Philip Larkin (as alluded to in his ode above).

Well, that's my take on it and I reckon it makes as much sense as anything on this thread.

I think Macky is getting hot under the collar as this jist of the thread is that going out with a thai or oriental person is the same level as going out with a prostitute which is rude, insensitive and very derrogatory, par for the NSC course really

But he's been registered since December 2004 even if he's only managed a paltry 200 posts or so. I would have thought he might be used to it by now.

Welcome back by the way

I think in fairness, US, that it wasn't so much the foreign bride thing as the way he defended HIS marriage very enigmatically together with his unusual prose style that people are joshing about. Comments like being a real man and offering to take people outside and punch them are just begging for a retort.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family all the best at Christmas.

I disagree, at least to some extent. I think it was more that buying a bride on the internet was akin to that, rather than going out with an asian girl par se. At the start of the thread Macky seemed a little reticent to deny that he had met his better half in such a way, and thus the comments began.

what is the stigma about getting a bride from the internet?

I have mates who have met people from tinterweb and have had sucessful long term relationships and also marriages.

Some people find it extremely difficult to talk to other people ( especially those of the opposite sex) and by talking on the web, at least it breaks down the initial fear.

So you all all being very horrid

stop it this very minute

there's nothing wrong with internet dating as far as I can see - it's between 2 equals. that's a world apart from the mail order brides from under-developed countries being bought for bonded slavery. I'm sure those people that have found true love with men/women from those Asian countries are as sick of it as the rest of us.

My pennyworth anyway.
