Texting and walking

Quality. The perils of mobile phones.

I nearly ran a friend of mine over yesterday while on my driving lesson as she wondered out in front of me while on her phone.

One of the things that annoys me most these days: people - mainly teenagers and young women it has to be said - who stumble along like bloody zombies, heads down, staring at their poxy mobile phone. You just know that in 99.9% of cases, the text they are sending/reading is totally pointless and unnecessary ("Just had a shit, now late for work. LOL !!"). Yet if they walk into you, or get run over, it's not their fault, of course!

Mobile phones and texting have spawned a generation of absolute retards.

It's not just texting it's also people talking on mobiles that don't look where they're going. A few weeks ago I was nearly hit by a cyclist who was using his phone and not watching where he was going. I'm please to report that having swerved violently to avoid me he fell off. It's also quite amazing the number of people who continue to drive and use their phones, it does make you wonder what has to be done to make some individuals aware of how dangerous this is.

Happend to me about 6 months ago. Someone walked straight out in front of the car because they where texting. I went absolutely mad and told them to pay attention. They could not understand what they did wrong.

Your right, 3/4 of these texts are a waste of time.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I nudged into a man who walked in front of me and my bike the other week. I screeched to a halt and fell sideways, a little unspectacularly. We had something of a face-off (not in a Cage/Travolta way) as he started shouting at me that pedestrians always have right of way. ALWAYS!! he screamed. He was checking his phone when he stepped out in front of me. My legs were shaken and i defended myself verbally and blandly as i stared up through the gap between my helmet and spectacles. He was a business sort and ended walking off after i agreed we should see the police to talk over pedestrianisation and road-crossing safety techniques. I shouted after him "Just take care next time!", which was an incredibly limp farewell. I wish i had the guts in me to swear louder at strangers. Anyway, this guy was a cocker.

I can only stand still to text or talk, actually that's a lie, I can walk and talk but only in very small circles or, at a push, walk back and forward in small open spaces. Christ if I was even holding a mobile phone near a fountain id probably crash into it.

Youngsters.....pah!

I get this every day, walking between London Bridge station and the office. People (usually women, sorry), head-down talking away, completely oblivious to everyone around them. A right pain in the jacksie.

My sympathies, I know exactly what you mean. It annoys me when people have long conversations on the train or bus, frankly I don't want to hear about your life just tell them when to expect you then shut up.

I always find myself walking in circles when on my mobile. as for walking in a crowded street, texting away, looking at my phone, i don't do it. you're just asking for trouble.

I was sat next to a girl the other day - unfortunately she did the whole journey from LB to Shoreham, so I had an hour and a quarter of how and why she'd had 2 inches cut off her hair. Not only was that mind numbing, but she was loud enough that even with my headphones on, I couldn't concentrate to read, or get to sleep.

That's exactly what I meant. I remember to this day sitting next to a woman who spent an entire forty five minute journey telling her friend how lousy her Christmaswas going to be. Shame this stupid cow didn't realise that nobody wanted to know. Fair enough calling for some important information but spewing your personal life out in front of completely disinterested strangers is very annoying.

Some people also need to have a bit of a think about what they're doing as well. A while ago I was sat behind a woman renewing her car insurance on her mobile on the train. In about 5 minutes I overheard her name, address, postcode, email address, bank account number, sort code, debit card number, start date, expiry date and security code.

True, some people are so dumb they almost deserve to get ripped off.

I don't do multi tasking. Walking and texting would be a disaster. I do the 'man' thing and prioritise. One thing at a time.
