They could do with one or two of the big stores being interested like Tesco/Sainsbury M & S etc but then the car park is to be demolishd for the flats so parking will be a problem. This then leaves specialist shops and how long can they survive.

Why would Tesco or Sainsbury be interested? M&S Food Hall potentially could be interesting but they'll want big car park spaces.

Personally I think they should go for the cinema/retail/restaurant set up with a few flats above. Chichester Gate type development which is always busy. It's not as revolutionary as perhaps I'd like but that's realistic I think.

If you read my comments and the links in post #9, that doesn't sound likely at all.

So flats, a gym, restaurants and a small supermarket sort of sounds like the plan.

I thought there was only 1 Morrisons the rest are express and the Morrisons at what was Caffyns is probably just over 5 mins walk from the station but not from Teville gate

This, I live a 10 minute walk from the station and that's before both Lidl & Waitrose and on the way to them.

Also Greens the Pork Butchers. Prior to decimalisation Pops sold a cup of tea for 5d and a cheese roll for 7d but when decimalisation came about it became 5p and 7p doubling in price.

In the 1970's I worked at Heathershaws, the music shop round the corner from the station and I also had my engagement (ill-fated) at the Station Hotel. The area was still quite nice at that time.

I don't think it was Comet, I think it was an independent trader that had a shop in the undercover bit. Can't find a source though.

There was an independent chemist there for ages, Walkers I think. He may have been the last shop to move out?

Those locals who know the area and in particular the highly unlovely multi-storey car park there might be interested to ear that it (the car park) staged a full marathon earlier this year. I reckon it would be a very strong contender for the ugliest and dullest marathon course in the world.

I got chased through Teville gate by a group of girls in tracksuits with bottles of WKD being brandished as weapons. I was 12.

Nice to see Worthing trying to retain some of its heritage and keep the place authentic.

I had my first day in the field selling insurance door to door in Teville gate in the 80's, some of those shopkeepers were somewhat blunt! However I also notched up my first sale there, so a special memory for me.

I remember my mum used to buy her toilet rolls from a company there who supplied cleaning products to the licensed and catering trade. They also had a branch in Hollingdean Brighton
