What if Lineker had done the same thing the other end and got us into the semi final. Would Butcher have refused to play on a point of principle? Of course not.

We're not whiter than white. It all goes back to Falklands, passions were still riding high, Maradona was a f***ing great player and he gets on with Castro. Good enough for me.

Do you really think any Englishman has ever droned on relentlessly, made silly flags and sung childish songs about Juan Arnaldo Cayasso? Do you think anyone even knows who is? Even I had to Google it!
Indeed. Was he Peru's goalscorer or Costa Rica's?

I hope he was Peru's. Wasn't it after that game where Scotland's passionate and fair minded support (which is never unreasonable and always far more level headed than England's) demanded the head of Ally Brown and tore up match tickets in anger?

Cubillas was one of the Peruvians. One of the great world cup games .................. "and we'll really shake them up when we win the World Cup".

Another thing about that game was that Scotland went 1-0 up. That was as good as it got. Marvellous.

He was the Costa Rican in Scotlands heroic 1 nil defeat to the world footballing powerhouse that is 'The Rica'.

Lost respect for Terry 'headbutt' Butcher long ago after getting fed up of his continual slagging off of Beckham...

I know what point you are making Southy but the difference there of course is Lineker would never have attempted to cheat by punching the ball in. He had the perfect opportunity in the last minute to do say but it would never have crossed his mind.

Of course years later we have our own cheats in people like Michael Owen to even games up now.
