Train wreck of a thread.

All forms of terrorism are abhorrent and should be unreservedly condemned. RIP to the victims of this and every other terrorist event.

This the point, albeit clumsily made, I was making. All terror attacks are abhorrent, and there are, after pretty much all attacks, threads on NSC about them. This attack, didnt get any thread or condemnation. I was surprised. It seems to have upset people by pointing that out.

No doubt the right of centre posters on here will soon be along to condemn this act by one of their fellow travellers and will be keen to point out to the authorities any of their friends who may have anything other than completely legal intentions.

Setting aside wether the center right hang with mass murders, i wouldn't be so quick to beleive the media. Everything I have read so far suggests he was a conspiracy theory obsessed nutbar referencing the paranormal, MK Ultra etc. A very small part of his rants concerned migrants. Very much like the crazed shooter of the Democrat Congress woman or the green haired guy who shot up a cinema a few years back.

This is exactly the point Dave is making.

He has done the same to ask the question as to why those who usually start thread about this stuff to highlight the Islamic terrorists do not do the same with far right ones.

Your posts remind me of Horseshoe theory as you don’t seem a lot different from the people you purport to dislike. Extremes of left and right do appear to be pretty much the same thing.

Ahhh, so he was mentally ill...

Many years ago, I rebutted certain islamophobic posters on here (most now banned) by saying that anyone prepared to murder strangers in the name of anything is mentally ill by definition. I was slapped down by one fellow who insisted via numerous aggressive posts, some explicit and some nudge-wink (creative use of his avatar for example) that the only problem in the world was the political mix of socialism, Islam (the 'religion of evil') and black people. Maybe, had I seen my mates killed by terrorists like he had, I might have concocted my own conspiracy theory, and personal matrix of anger and depression. Whether I'd wave it proudly like a flag of identity on a football forum is another matter.

My feeling remains that most people would accept that the warped 'logic' and willingness to kill perfect strangers in the name of an idea (regardless of whether the idea 'smells' noble to them, or just seems bonkers) is not right in the head.

That doesn't mean seek them out and set them up in a nice council house. But, also, it doesn't mean seek out anyone who looks a bit like them, and burn them.

And I don't like this thread. I don't see the distrurbing 'anti' this that or the other trolling we had on NSC not so long ago. It is perfectly reasonable to start a thread on anything now, even if a bit of unconscious bias is the trigger (this applies to us all).

I'd like to hope the personal axe grinding and political point scoring over these issues might stop now, especially now that certain folk have been banned. Being a looney is no more an excuse for trolling on NSC than it is for being a murderer, even if it is the explanation. I think we should be able to play nicely after 20 plus years

Absolutely this, he was clearly bored and thought I know let’s stir some shit up on NSC, I recognise this behaviour as I’ve done it in the past and am guilty as charged, the sooner this clanger admits he’s a misguided poo folder the sooner we can get back to the footy!!!!

Why didn't you just start a serious thread about it yourself?

I know the answer - because you have a one track mind and your first instinct on any thread is to argue with people you consider to be right wing or racist. I suspect you're actually addicted to it.

This is, indeed, a truly depressing thread, started with the sole intention of provoking argument about a particular hobbyhorse personal to the thread starter. Maybe Dave will take it from quite a few respected posters (and not a far right one amongst them) that this was a poor idea, and he should back down and have a think.

When anyone resorts to violence due to a set of extreme beliefs obtained from an organisation then this is cultish behaviour. The person is meeting their human needs through dyfunctional behaviour, usually becuase they are screwed up or inadequate; when the set of beliefs comes from an organisation (whether that is extreme Islam or Jim Jones's mob then that organistion is cult-like, and having an adverse effect on said inaequate people. Of course, the nuttiness can just come from inside the person's own head, but it is interesting that organisations that claim to be spiritual in nature (e.g. religions and cults) can often be the trigger for this ghastly behaviour. Whether you believe in any spiritual values or not, this is quite a paradox, as any spritual practice is meant to develop the individual to a higher level, not turn them into a crazed monster.

That does not unfortunately surprise me at all, Right wingers will point out some of those "white" people arrested over terrorism are white converts to Extreme Islamic ideology though, and use that as an excuse for hate,

From those very statistics clearly the bigger threat is not from white extremists, even though it is just as abhorrent.

Both evil sides of the divide will use statistics to there own ends.

Sadly this will never go away, and that is a fact, fanatics/idiots can be persuaded to do all sorts of evil things in the name of religion & race.

Frankly we have far more to worry and get passionate about in the world that skin colour and so called gods and prophets....
