We are looking at grabbing a week or so away in Tenerife once the school holidays finish but we are a bit concerned about how things are in a resort like Costa Adeje. Has anybody travelled that way recently and can share experiences of what it’s like to do something many of us took for granted until recently. We are both late 50’s and double vaxxed.

What specifically are you concerned about? Getting to / from / back from Tenerife is easy. There is obviously a risk of a positive test before you come home and having to quarantine out there

Not worried about the travel, more how busy things are, are restaurants open, how well the restrictions appear to be managed. Relaxed about the quarantine issue rightly or wrongly!

OK can't help with that sorry

Spain rules are generally OK - except nothing can open between 1am-6am, and still require masks when moving around restaurants / bars, no standing at bars etc

Yes, good shout, worth considering. We’ve stayed there before.

We are at Costa Adeje right now. Staying at the Hard Rock. Lots of mask wearing, hand sanitisation etc. I feel no less safe here than I did in Brighton. They also checked everyone's vaccination and PCR tests when we checked in. However, we have made the call not to go to Siem Park and other crowded places.

Can't tell you about current issues but I live there over winter so PM me if you need any info.

Ignore the nonsense about kids and night life etc. Stay away from Americas/Cristianos and the north end of Adeje and you'll be just fine. South Adeje/ La Caleta / Los Gigantes are all great places for 50+

Anybody know if the hmgov 'recommendation' of pre-flight PCR tests for coming home from Canaries is actually just that, a recommendation? Can you still turn up at Canaries boarding gate with a pre-flight lateral flow test? Asking for a friend hopefully going to Fuerteventura in 4 weeks. Ta.

Were the PCR tests for non-vaccinated folks or for jabbed and non-jabbed folks alike? Didn't think PCR tests were a requirement if you were jabbed. Tho I might well be wrong and rules might well all change again anyways

It is a recommendation only. Lateral Flow is still fine.
However, the next Govt. travel update is due this Thursday so it could change?

Depending on how you are flying with - you can get Antigen tests for as little as £28 to which is nice.

I’m in Costa Adeje right now too! Arrived Saturday and our game with Watford was whilst I was in the air, first thing I saw on landing was the result…..get in!

We booked 2 weeks 3 days before travel, but I know the covid travel drills now.

Being completely honest and without wanting to sound arrogant etc, the flight was a bit if a nightmare, full of chav types, and good few Jeremy Kyle wannabes, rough families shouting across the aircraft pissed, good few had to be told repeatedly to put masks on as they kept taking them off, some old dear in row in front of us, coughing her guts up none stop. Made my wife uncomfortable. We’ve been to Gran Canaria and Tenerife loads (always in winter normally) and it’s often oldies/retirees… this was the butlins crowd.

At Tenerife airport. took and hour to get through with biggish queues at airport, a few flights arrived at same time, COVID checks and random tests slowed it down plus just 2 officers on passport control and way to many people for that amount. In resort it’s all good as ST said it’s all well managed with mask wearing protocols etc in indoor public places being followed.

The journey here wasn’t that enjoyable. And a lot of people you’re unlikely to socialise with at the pool, if you catch the drift! We were going to go back to Maspalomas in GC but came here as the nicest bitt there, Meloneras is all boarded up and in some renovations.

Car hire is a problem in the canaries now, if you planned it, they’ve cut capacity by 80% due COVID, so what there is goes fast and prices becomes nuts. I booked through holiday autos, with a local company called top car as only 500 euro excess compared to much higher with others, FYI, as it’s fully refundable up to 24 hours before, knowing I was going to go to Tenerife or Gran Canaria and having checked flights times, I booked car in both places, 13 days in a normal size hatchback was £432 in Tenerife, £385 in Gran Canaria one week before we left, 3 days out I cancelled GC on booking Tenerife and GC was now £575, Tenerife now £660 for same car, same time and same company. Day before travel it was now £790.

If you plan in using a car book today! If you want any tips on tests (I took return to uk test with me - £25 per person with £5.95 next day delivery). Just ask.

Yes you can. As you said it’s a recommendation not a rule as of today.

I went to Greece a month ago and this is fine. Took in hand luggage. Take from 72 hours before I think it is, DIY send a pic of the cassette and your passport to them by QR code and they email full cert. not needed under 12 years old.

Just to clarify, you cannot take a NHS lateral flow test abroad and take the results of that to the airport. It has to be a test done locally. I've just come back from Cyprus and loads of pharmacies are doing them for 10EU, results within 10-15 minutes. I would advise to get a paper copy of the results as well, you need to show the results when you check in and there was a real problem with people trying to show an email with the results on their phone to the check in person. Same with the passenger locator form which is a 3-4 page document and virtually impossible to read on a phone, get it printed.
