I think the club and football in general will struggle to get fans back to grounds.

Main reason is the expense but with the credit crunch issue and rising power bills then leisure activities are the first to go when finances are stretched.

I think this is issue is more generic in the lower leagues and can't see it being resolved unless the package changes = Falmer.

Anyone got any bright ideas how to solve this, bar the obvious which is reducing ticket prices and losing even more per home game.

Have you bought anything in the club shop lately? When I did recently, I was asked to fill in a questionnaire relating to my attendance and what, if anything, was a factor in the number of games I go to.

Price being one of them.

Don't see how we're going to lose more if the fans come back.

Yes, the Club had to do some 'sucking up' to the season ticket holders in the summer after the West Ham fiasco. But they again forgot about the non-season ticket holders that still go to Withdean. Individual prices haven't changed - the bulk of season ticket holders are still there, the 'every now and then' spectators are not.

If not prices, then the ONLY other way of getting the fans back is a WINNING team, with some RESPECTED players and staff. And that means getting the cheque book out...

More deals for the real lifeblood of any football club. Groups of 4 or 5 mates who decide on a whim to head to the game instead of the pub on a Saturday afternoon.

Buy 3 adult tickets and the 4th goes free.

Totally random made up in my head this very minute.

How about rewarding the loyal fans that can't afford a season ticket in advance.

It would work like this.....

When you have bought home tickets for League games equal to the value of a Season ticket then you get free tickets for the remaining games.

It would need an accurate database to be set up to maintain.

Football in this country has seen a pretty meteoric rise over the last ten years and it seems to have hit a peak. Most people I speak to seem to have lost the same interest they have for the game in general.

Players don't seem to have the same connection with the fans and all seater stadia have ripped the heart and soul out attending games and generating an atmosphere.

Went to see Ice Hockey in America about 7 years ago and it was one of the most sanitised experiences I have ever had but going to Wembley for me these days had the same feeling.

Just think with all of the money in the game the powers that be seems to have overlooked all of the things that made going to football such a pleasure in the past.

I think the re-introduction of designated standing areas at stadiums will help to generate a better atmosphere

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Along With Other Measures (price Reductions Etc.) Perhaps They Need To Think About Potential For Fan Involvement Penalty Shootouts And Prizes More Fan Involvement Obviously These Measures Would Not Attract Fans Alone But May Make It A Little More Wholesome And A More Pleasant Experience I Dont Think I Shall Use This Method Of Posting Again It Can Be Quite Hard To Follow.

A winning team playing good football for a sustained period is the ONLY guaranteed way to get the fans back in Brighton. It's always been that way. Brighton fans have only ever turned out in large numbers to watch a succesful team or for a big match. The 1st season back at Withdean and the 1st season in the Championship are the only exceptions I can think of, but for obvious reasons.

Yep, terracing will definitely bring fans back.

Dream on - the HSE will never allow it.
Nothing's going to happen until football completes its transition from tribal warfare to a spectator sport - which, at the top end, it nearly has.
Then go for comfort (stop fitting 25,000 plastic bucket seats into a ground which never houses more than 15k - watch MotD tonight and count the empty seats at everywhere except the top 5 grounds).
Get rid of turn-styles and use swipe cards to stop queuing.
Design bars and cafes so fans do their pre-/post- match eating and drinking at the ground instead of in pubs.
Find ways to use the grounds and catering facilities 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year (sorry, Falmer Village - but that's the future).
Build grounds near railways - big tick for Falmer.
Provide TV re-play screens (if Lord's can do it, so can we).
Make the ground a community meeting place and not a two-hours-a-fortnight fortification.
Stop cancelling the trains between H-Heath and Preston Park - sorry, personal point, but I'm never travelling on that rusting double-decker again...
Easy, really.

Also you should be aware the FA are against this safe standing lark - face facts it will never happen.

The most curious thing..
A winning team winning things by scoring lots of goals (easy if you think about it hard enough)

Ah! but wouldn't you have to buy at least one more ticket to cover the cost of interest, otherwise this is tantamount to an interest free loan, unheard of except at DFS.

Charging people more for paying for the season ticket in installments should be scrapped. I personally think this is sneaky and I didnt like it when Martin Perry brought this in. He argued that in effect the club was giving interest free credit. Not a good arguement in my opinion
