Jamie Campbell.

Released by Barnet and was absolute shite. I think everyone thought he'd be lucky to join a club in the Blue Square South, then Brighton signed him. I warned all the Albion supporters I worked with at the time how crap he was.

The winner by a mile Bobby Smith, 6 months after playing for England, it would be the equivalent to us signing Peter Crouch now for a nominal fee.

This really is the only correct answer to the question. For those of you too young to remember, and there will be many, it was the kind of news that you had to pinch yourself to believe. And we were in the old 4th Division at the time! Absolutely amazing.

I'd say Tanno or Savage. Poyet wore the red and black strip in a charity game I believe, if that counts.

Nearing the end of Wardy's loan period Brian Clough was alleged to tell him 'I never played in a cup final young man. And neither will you.'

I too heard this. All geniuses have flaws, this was Cloughies!

Arty you were right, if only he had been able to play in the cup final, we would be singing when Wardy scored!

He was limited but by no means a crap player. I have seen many worse players don the blue & white stripes.

Frank Stapleton & Russell Osman were strange signings roughly around the same time.

Nothing new from me - Jimmy Case and Sergei Gotsmanov were the 2 that took me by surprise most and the one that never should have been has to be Tiltman for me, OMG he was rubbish.
