So get BT to fix the sockets as yes thats their equipment and then go with whatever provider you want for the line and broadband.

Simples

You have to agree to a 24 month contract berfore they will touch it. To have them just repair the boxes is very expenbsive hence I was half hoping an engineer was on here and would come and do it as a private. No doubt that he will finish up using google and doing it himself.

Apologies I didn't realise they would work that way but thinking about it they add the charges to the next bill so makes sense. Google it is then !

You can buy the tools for the job at screwfix, tl carr etc

I sometimes wonder if all this technological head-scratching buffoonery from BG is, actually, the most elaborate ‘how many Brighton fans does it take to change a lightbulb’ setup ever.

One that’s been like 5 years in the planning and careful build-up.

Gradually suckering us in over the years with increasingly nonsensical requests, until one day he will finally drop that “wife just flicked the light switch but nothing happened what should I do?” query.

And in our droves we will bite. Only to then realise we’ve been played, as BG rips off his mask to reveal he’s actually a huge social media prankster with millions of followers who’s just exposed us as the dumbest group in the universe, who really do need 100 people to change a lightbulb.

We ARE being wound up aren’t we? I can just see BG in his slippers sitting in his favourite chair chuckling away as he drinks his tea reading the replies

It should be a 5 min job providing the wiring isn't damaged and there is enough of it to actually fit into new box. You can pick up the IDC tool, a front plate and back box from B and Q for less than £20. If you can't do it yourself any electrician or even IT network engineer would be able to do it in mins.

Fair play BG keeping morale up at these difficult times

That is the answer I was hoping for, thanks.

Why all the hate to BG this time? I have seen loads of threads like this (not all BG started) over the years that get some nice practical advice

What most people do not realize is that my son is at work and doesnt have access to NSC or the internet other than for work so if I can help him out I do. Hence he rings me with requests to look at this trhat and the other thing on the internet. It was my idea to ask the posters on NSC as I thought that there were a number of wires and it could be complicated putting them in the correct place..

Is this not the landlord's responsibility ?

They need to establish which company is responsible for the line.

this. why fix and become responsible for something the previous tenent has done?

Don't tell any BT engineers but I've wired in loads of sockets with a flat blade screwdriver rather than a punch. Even converted my parents old phone 'socket' to a modern one in the years when you weren't allowed to touch them.

It's easy BG.
