Hi Guys,

Today Ive got a really important telephone interview for a job I really want, Its so important to me that I get through to the next stage of interviews. Would anyone have any advice or knowledge of the type of questions that may crop up or any hints. Obviously it will be specific to the role Im going for but any tips would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

ask questions about the job etc.
Also ask at the end what their recruitment process is, interviews/assesment day etc and ask them if there are any qualities/experience they were looking for that you havnt demonstrated yet. but most of all seem keen

If they ask if you've got any other interviews, say you have a few options open to you, but THIS is the job you're really interested in.

Erm......I guess the most important bit of advice I can offer is to pick up the phone when they ring you! :)

What's the job?

BAGs advice is best... make sure you cannot be disturbed at all. Also make sure you show that you are listening very carefully to what they say. When you answer refer back to what they've said before. telephone interviewers are extra cautious about whether you are really paying attention. As they can't see you you could be doing the crossword for all they know.

Finally tone down your moods... someone one the phone can easily sound aggrressive or crazy so if you've got a bit of a crazy laugh don't overdo it.

All in all... phone interveiws are quite easy and you can get away with blue murder... just don't bank on it.

Also, keep a pen and some paper handy to write notes, or any information they give you. You'll sound disorganised if you have to get them to hang on while you rummage for a pen and something to write on.

If they ring you, try not to answer "yyeeello!" or "speak!" etc., speak clearly, try not to mumble or look down down, don't hold the phone so close to your mouth they can hear you breath, speak loud enough for them to hear you, but not so loud they're holding the phone away from their ear etc.

Good points..... do you have a speakerphone option? If so, use it as it lets your hands free ... of course if you don't have a quiet atmosphere or you are going to be disturbed don't use it..... or if you are following Spanish's advice.

After each question pause for a couple of seconds, to steady yourself for the answer you want to give, rather that jump in with replies.

Also when asking them questions try to make them "open" questions rather than "closed" ones as this can feel you are trying to coerce them to giving answers you want, giving a sense of entrapment.
