A classic heard last night during the Fiorentina v Liverpool match:

"Not only are they beating Liverpool, they're beating a club from the Premier League ! They'll be looking on that as being a real feather in their cap tonight."

Andy, Andy, Andy. Are you so utterly CONSUMED by the neverending Sky Sports hype-machine, that you honestly believe that (outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona), the rest of Europe are completely and utterly in AWE of english clubs ? He seemed to think Fiorentina were almost honoured to be sharing a pitch with a Premier League team, let alone comfortably stuffing them out of sight. The other guy (dunno who was commentating) was happily joining in, saying there'll be "no sleep for us tonight in Florence", as if hoards of jubilant italians would be riding scooters round the streets into the early hours, trailing vast flags in celebration of them beating a PREMIER LEAGUE club. Woop de do. All they did was beat a below-par Liverpool in the 2nd of six group games in the first round of the competition Andy. They havn't just won the World Cup again.

I used to quite like Andy Gray when he started out doing the co-commentating. Now the bloke is just so brainwashed with hyperbole and a sense of his own self-importance, he's developed into possibly the single most nauseating voice on soccerball television. I'd have gone to radio commentry, but I fear that was probably Alan Green. What a choice.

Top post.

The only people I know who like Andy Gray are the typical arm-chair/pub-chair plastic fans who are so dim-witted they cannot think for themselves when it comes to a players ability or a controversial match incident.

Unfortunately there is a wagon-load of them who will swear-by anything his over-emphasising, condescending mouth utters as they themselves are so devoted to Sky’s marketing-lines.

It just seems to be typical lazy British journalism across the board last night.

La Viola have had one of the best home records in Italy for the past 4 seasons.

They also seemed shocked that Fiorentina ATTACKED Liverpool from the start. Cesare Prandelli has always got his team to attack and quite often deploys a 4-3-3 formation, bucking the stereotypical Italian team.

Martin Skrtel foul on Mutu, right before Mutu got substituted, being described as "clumsy" by Andy Gray. Replay has Skrtel going in with his knee raised to go into Mutu's back. That looks more pre-meditated than clumsy to me you fat scottish twat.

Andy "hindsight" Gray should be sent back to commentate on Inverurie Loco Works v Fort William and leave us with the wonderful Gary Birtles to enlighten us.

Just joking,like.

Jesus, it's even worse listening to the APOEL v Chelsea match, the summariser seems to think that APOEL are not even on the pitch. Granted, Chelsea are a far better side than the Cypriot team, but APOEL are giving their best, passing the ball, moving through the midfield and making chances as best they can, including several attempts on goal, they just aren't as good as Chelsea. But the way the bloke alongside the commentator is describing it, you'd think APOEL have 11 men inside their own 6 yard area permanently. Jesus, these people are f***ing dreadful, why do they think that the EPL is the ONLY football league in the world? FFS, it's the European Champions League, other teams exist outside our top 4 and the two from Spain. I just don't understand how they get a job in the first place if they are so blinkered, you can't even call it patriotism, it is just offensive to intelligent people watching a CL game on the box. Wankers.

Abort, retry, fail
Andy Gray is up there with all the best commentators, Tim White and David Pleat to name two. It is an utter privelege to have such a massive footballing legend regaling his thoughts and observations.

I, for one, think the football would be an emptier place without him.
