A classic heard last night during the Fiorentina v Liverpool match:

"Not only are they beating Liverpool, they're beating a club from the Premier League ! They'll be looking on that as being a real feather in their cap tonight."

Andy, Andy, Andy. Are you so utterly CONSUMED by the neverending Sky Sports hype-machine, that you honestly believe that (outside of Real Madrid and Barcelona), the rest of Europe are completely and utterly in AWE of english clubs ? He seemed to think Fiorentina were almost honoured to be sharing a pitch with a Premier League team, let alone comfortably stuffing them out of sight. The other guy (dunno who was commentating) was happily joining in, saying there'll be "no sleep for us tonight in Florence", as if hoards of jubilant italians would be riding scooters round the streets into the early hours, trailing vast flags in celebration of them beating a PREMIER LEAGUE club. Woop de do. All they did was beat a below-par Liverpool in the 2nd of six group games in the first round of the competition Andy. They havn't just won the World Cup again.

I used to quite like Andy Gray when he started out doing the co-commentating. Now the bloke is just so brainwashed with hyperbole and a sense of his own self-importance, he's developed into possibly the single most nauseating voice on soccerball television. I'd have gone to radio commentry, but I fear that was probably Alan Green. What a choice.

Whilst I agree with the majority that Andy Gray is a bit of a knob. Myself and team mates can't help but shout 'take a bow son' when a bullet of a goal has been scored.

I used to love him when he was playing for The Villa. Shame he turned into a MEGA-COCK when he finally hung his boots up.

Whilst I agree with absolutely everything else in your top rant, that accolade will remain impossibly out of reach to anybody all the time David Pleat is still heard.

I'd probably like him more if he actually knew the rules before passing judgement on ref's decisions.

Andy Gray is one of those who clearly gets intoxicated by the sound of his own voice. Stan Collymore is another showing alarmingly similar symptoms.

Drives me mad when Andy "Elbows" Gray justifies a penalty claim with "there was definitely a touch" as if any contact with a forward is an automatic foul these days. When exactly did he change from being a tough as nails old skool forward who would take it and dish it out, into the sort of poofy girls blouse that the game is sadly full of these days?

Season 1992-93, with his first contract.

There was a headline on the BBC website earlier that read: Fiorentina SHOCK Liverpool :bla:

Very bad piece of sports journalism that was.

How can it be a SHOCK as the BBC claim to win a European game at home, which in fairness you should win against the 4th best team from England?
