Tech help please

I tried to contact a company but they only gave a telephone and fax number so thought I would try contacting them via fax. I have never used fax on my pc before so read the help instructions and it said just write an e mail and instead of email address insert telephone number of recipitent which I did but it was returned address unknown.

In simple terms how can I use my PC to send a fax. I use windows XP. Many thanks for any helpful suggestions and advice other than the obvious 'thick f...er dont you know how to do it'

Also you need to have a dail up service to fax from a pc,hope this is of some help
