A couple of questions,
Why do you have a bank account that doesn't do direct debits?
Why do you have to have a BT account?

We're with Tiscali for broadband and phone which works out very cheaply.

I'd imagine the answer to question 1 could be bad credit. If so get a bank of scotland easycash account - they allow DD's but wont give you an O/D.

As do Natwest.

We do not pay our bills by direct debit either desperateseagull, we are with Virgin Media and they just send us our bill and I fill in the slip and pay that way.

f*** BT, useless wankers. Just spent an hour on the phone to them.

Got a bill this morning saying it was my final bill. Funny I haven't asked for any of their services to be disconnected. So I ring the number on the bill. After 20 minutes of being told how important my custom is and to keep holding I speak to some Indian call centre. After 10 minutes of trying to explain to the woman that I don't want to end my contract she tells me I need to speak to the broadband team. So I go back on call for another 10 mins. This time it's a very helpful Welsh lady who informs me I requested for my contract to end on June 8th and my broadband connection has ended on July 8th (god knows how I'm able to post on here then??). So I tell her I don't want it to end and she then informs me that she is customer relations or something similar and I need to speak to broadband sales!!! Another 15 mins on hold and I get fed up and give up.

Tempted to f*** them off completely and go with someone else, but if my experiences with talktalk and bulldog are anything to go by I'm dubious to move away from BT.

Nearly an hour on the phone and I'm no closer to getting my problem resolved!! So I've emailed them and I've got an automated reply telling me not to expect an answer anytime soon as the wet weather has meant they are swamped (pardon the pun).

See above Arthur. Tiscali for phone and broadband. We've had no problems.

Actually, no, if they think you have cancelled and you're still able to use it then pay the bill and carry on. They will soon realise their mistake.

Does look a reasonable deal with Tiscali. £20 a month which is broadband and phone. Would I need a BT line as well? If not then that's great because currently I pay about 25 quid a month for my broadband and 15 quid a month for (phone) line rental.

Like I say though, given my previous experience with talktalk and bulldog I don't mind paying for a service that works. Before today not had a single problem with BT. I'm a sky subscriber (TV) so apparently I can get free this that and other without paying any more but I've nothing but bad things about them.

You do need a BT line but we don't pay line rental to BT.

Have a look here
www.uswitch.com

You can input your needs and it tells you who is the best for what you want. Tiscali was best for us and we've been with them since last November.
