I think we desperately need to sign a midfielder soon, if we sign someone today can they play tomorrow

Do not think that they can be registered until the offices re-open on Tuesday as Today and tomorrow are Bank Holidays. I may be wrong.

Chippy had an appalling game yesterday.

But then so did most of them.

The defence flapped around in the second half. El Abd should have got a grip on the situation for the first goal, Butters should have cleared the second, Reid was erratic again, Carpenter didn't do much, Frutos looked lightweight, Knight came on and swanned around like it was beneath him.

McCammon at least tried in his ungainly way. Kuipers did nothing wrong, and McShane looked a bit more in control than the other defenders, but other than that, none of them escape criticism.

Has anyone seen Tommy Elphick play in midfield?

I'm not sure I have - but he is more of a footballer than his brother so may be capable of playing there.

I'd rather they stick Fraser in though.

I've heard plenty about Gatting and the Elphicks, but know nothing about Fraser.

I actually think London Irish has it spot on. We need some sort of protection to stop the likes of Walcott running at us like the Millwall players were allowed. Playing McShane there should help, I suggested that MONTHS ago but was laughed at.

Let's leave it to McGhee, he seems to know what he's doing.

I don't see Knight being able to play central midfield. If he has one of his half hearted days the Saints will waltz straight through,( 1,2,3. 1,2,3.)

I envisage him playing as part of a 3 man central midfield, with Mcshane playing as an anchor. When we're attacking he can push up beside chippy, leaving leon free to roam forward and when we're defending he can drop deeper and hopefully clear up any attacks tht get through Leon and chippy.

With so many injuries and with a fairly weak midfield at the best of times I think it's important to pack the middle of the pitch for this game to give our defence as much protection as possible. We've conceded 8 in our last two away games so restricting the opposition is vital. 5 across the middle means theirs less space for them and should make it difficult for them to use their pace. Hopefully. :)
