Why change what has brought success so far, unless you have a long injury list?

Two up front with one dropping deep and two banks of four when you don't have the ball. Is that not what's been happening?

Yeah Baldock is injured. There isn't anyone else.

I see, don't worry we've been there.

We had to play Ashley Barnes up front on his own for a time (that's not a dig but a fact).

Our system this season has involved 1 target man (hemed) & 1 running off him (baldock)the game lasts 95 mins so why put all your eggs in 1 basket with your starting 11 with nobody on the bench to change things when needed.

Sort of.

Tendency for Baldock (he is no Ings or Gray) & Hemed to operate as a two up front in an old fashioned 4-4-2 rather than a 4-4-1-1. I think the latter is better policy in away games but Baldock is not quick enough for a deep lying second striker as he cannot outpace a defender on the shoulder of him. One reason* for a poor scoring record from our second striker. Does create space for others though. (*other reason is he can't shoot or head the ball.)

I see it an opportunity as although we need that missing goalscorer/second striker, Jamie Murphy (or Lualua if fit) or even Solly March (not really experienced enough) could play the role behind the target man striker. Even Bobby Zamora could do it.

I don't think losing Baldock is a major problem. I see it as an opportunity to try something else.

Good post, although you think Baldock isn't quick enough for the deep-lying role but BZ is ? I know he's bagged us a couple of critical goals, but BZ doesn't have much in the way of pace. Baldock is definitely quicker. Agree that Murphy would be worth a try in that formation though.

Baldock is one of our quickest players. He might not be quicker than LuaLua over short distances, but is over longer. March might be quicker than him, but don't think Murphy is. Zamora quite categorically, isn't.

Lets hope he is just on the wrong wavelength. Looks promising to me.

I think Barton plays on the left for Burnley. This implies that David Jones is overtly right footed. I'd play the right footed Jamie Murphy to go on the outside of him or switch the ball wide to the right (which we tend to do anyway). So it is Jamie Murphy instead of Solly March to start on the right for me. Still leaves the question open who to play on the left side of midfield for us? Rosenoir at left back. So it is Kayal, Crofts, Stephens and one other.

Mee at left back has a good rep. I would want our fastest winger on at sometime to discourage any overlapping forays. March showed that if he tracks back and wins the back on the right hand side he is inverted and had trouble with his distribution being so left-footed. If Murphy plays behind the main striker he won't track back. So it be up to Crofts. He can then be anonymous as usual filling the gap.

Barton plays in the centre with David Jones, who is very left footed.

OK. That changes everything. We do not have a balanced midfield like that. In theory, it is a bit tricky as Boyd might be able to exploit our reserve full back on the left. How Kayal & Stephens will fare vs Barton & Jones is interesting. Match might well depend upon it.

I do not know what will happen. I think CH will match like for like and it could cancel both teams out or it it could open up in a tit for tat.

It is the Albion advantage to keep a closed game as our strikers are not as prolific. I would prefer Hemed to Vokes at a pinch though. Not much between them.

Predict 1-1. Albion will concede from a free kick just outside the box (weak point). Less sure of how we are going to score.
