milner injured now too. think that actually puts us on -1 wingers as opposed to zero, and he’s not even really a winger.

as a plus, fati could be on the bench. that said, we should be very careful reintroducing him

I almost don't care about the personnel, just ditch the back three bollocks and revert to a four, please.
Unlike many posters on here, I cannot be bothered to look for the posts from last year crying out for a back 3.
But there were a few!

What's the theory behind this not working, then? It tended to be a mark of defensive stability in the Potter years

Didn't we outplay Wolves and West Ham and batter Spurs, Sheff Utd, Stoke with this squad/line up ?
That's not my memory of Wolves, particularly the second half when they had the best chances

Steele
Hinsh JPvH Dunky Pervis
Gross WBG
Lamptey Pedro Moder
Ferguson

Bench: Bart, Webster, Igor, Baleba, Lallana, Buonanotte, Fati, Welbz, Baker-Boatley etc

Moder is admittedly a bit of a punt, so the other option would be Pedro on the left and Facundo in the No 10 slot.
Need to rediscover our clinical edge in front of goal, otherwise this has 0-0 written all over it.

I hope Barco hits the ground running when he arrives, we could do with some midfield help.

fati/BBB ferg welbs

agree with poster above that BBB worth a punt, but Fati if he's fit(i).
push Stupi back to his actual position and trust he and Igor can work through it together!
Welbs has played LW effectively in the past.

JPVH looks a bit mentally stretched, so not bad to give him a break.

Leaving Fergie, potentially Fati, Lamptey, Igor and Moder to come on depending on how things are going

Got to go with Vebruggen purely as he's the better keeper in saving shots etc

decent enough though and you would hope Baleba due to step up a bit

Think would start with Fergie if we have to though. He's been pretty awful for a few months so bringing him on if we need something wouldnt fill me with confidence. Rather Welbeck come on in this situation.

Hopefully if Ferg starts then he might have a good game , he is long long over due

Lamptey and Fati decent options to add width later on.

It's bound to be tight and anxious at times
