You're all f***ing jealous 'cos you can't (legally) use the bus lanes in Brighton. :lolol:

DTG Is that what happened to the phone. Not working in Brighton, there wasn't a lot I could do about it. (But i do like Egypt!) Next time you need a taxi home, let me know beforehand. I'll sort you out and at least give you some decent service. I may even open the door for you AND get your zimmer out the boot. :lolol:

Don't generalise ALL taxi drivers because of some knobs who shouldn't be doing the job. Next time you have trouble with a driver, get his plate number and report it to the relevant council. And don't go on about the prices, it's the council that sets the fares, not us. And we can't charge unlawful extras as the meters are calendar controlled, automatically setting the meter to the right tariff for that time of day. Kev will back me up on this (Smith, not Ape).

I must say that most taxi drivers are all right - but then my father-in-law is a cabbie. :)

I should point though that he's not scum, Egyptian, rude, racist or a Tory. He is, however, a Millwall supporter, that might be just as bad to some of you.

Agree with an earlier post about them expecting a tip, if you give them a note it takes frekking ages for them to piss about finding the change in the hope you say "keep It", If there prices were not so bloody high in the first place I would consider it! But them again nobody tips me for doing my job so why do they expect it?

I don't expect it, gvce. I only expect to get paid the fare for getting you to your destination safely. :lolol:

You lot should try doing it for a week and see what we have to put up with (and that's just in Shoreham, never mind Brighton)

I once got a tip from a taxi driver. I used to get a taxi from home to the station in the mornings sometimes. I usually rang up just before 6am, but he told me to wait until 06.01 to ring as that was when night time prices stopped. What a nice chap.

All the Brighton & Hove taxis have the green/turquoise bonnets and boots Dave. It makes it easier to distinguish which area they are licenced for. No such marking rules apply for Adur licenced taxis. Which firm let you down for the Gatwick incident? PM me if you wish. I probably don't work for them, just lincenced by the same council. When you go on hols again Dave and need a taxi, let me know. You won't be let down. That goes for anyone who lives in Adur (even you Easy 10).

And thank you Danny.

IMPORTANT
If you hail a taxi in the street or off a rank, make sure that...

1. it is currently licenced by the council where you are at the time
2. is also a proper hackney carriage (NOT private hire)
3. the driver has a current hackney carriage badge for that same council

If all 3 cannot be verified, then under no circumstances get in. His insurance will NOT be valid in the case of an accident.

One thing I've found with Brighton cabbies is that there is a polarised Falmer opinion, had one cab driver who did nothing but slag of Dick Knight with "he's ripping you off he's a crook". Anecdotal I know, but I sense an anti Falmer majority.
Other opinions include "Waterhall mate" the odd, "what's wrong with Withdean" and ..."that Margaret Thatcher, best thing that ever 'appened to this country".

I rest my case.

I once got into at Brighton Station and the driver got lost going to Withdean!

A few of us got a minibus back from Gatwick Airport with a driver who was rude to everyone and got lost in his own hometown (Worthing). Makes you wonder why he chose to be a taxi driver really.

I stopped using taxis off the rank in Worthing as they have got so expensive (in fairness i know the council set the prices).

Like most areas in life, you tend to remember the bad experiences more than the good or perfectly acceptable.

Mini Cab Radio Controllers are generally, however, a tool of satan.

gotta love the cabbies like the ones in football factory, cracks me up every time :)

we were all going out in town monday night, and that day i got a flyer through about some new taxi firm in worthing, rang them up, asked for a taxi 9pm into town, on a monday night... shouldnt be too much of a bother.

We're stood outside, 9:20 still nothing, so we ring "oh its been one of them days" erm how about you ring us and tell us. cancelled that one and got a good A2B taxi that turned up within 5 minutes, as stated!
