Not sure if I can blame Lamptey here. The lineup selection was absolutely awful as he had no midfield support at all. The penalty shouldn't have been given either. He is more of a wing-back, maybe even a winger, than a full-back in my opinion.

How anyone can say that wasnt a pen is a mystery to me. He put his arms round him and made it very easy for teh Forest player to make it look like he was wrestled to the ground. Stupid and naive.

Webster can play right back and then you can switch Veltman to left back.
Solly March is pretty decent at left back. Obviously not his favoured position but he’s never let us down there.
Lamptey had a defensive nightmare yesterday.

According to Sussex World, a club source told them "Why the hell would we sell him with all the injuries?".
My thoughts exactly. Unless we're desperate for a bit of cash (and I can't believe we are) we'd be far better off keeping Tariq for now even if he goes for a free in the summer. After all, we could lose Veltman to injury.

This! I mentioned this on a post yesterday. I hate it being given against us but maybe if more refs starting giving these it would cut out the ridiculous degree of wrestling that occurs at set pieces.

I would ask same question about Ferguson….when we only have one striker who is injury prone. Also, Barco being moved on is a strange one when so short of full backs

March is the best back-up left back we’ve got, despite his best position being right wing. Every time he’s played there he’s been solid and if I remember correctly, that’s actually where he was playing at City when he did his ACL last year.

Tariq looked like he could be our next world-beater at the end of that first COVID season, but after his hamstring problems his defensive awareness has been an issue (perhaps with his PCR not quite able to compensate anymore). I actually thought he was better at left back than right back until yesterday.

He’s a lovely bloke and he has some strengths, but the reality is he’s not good enough defensively to play full back at this level, and he’s not good enough going forward to play on the wing. A move seems sensible as long as we’ve got the back up already in the squad.
I’d argue that Barco is the best back up option we have and we then ship him to Strasbourg.

Not sure what’s going on at the moment.

Yes, a definite penalty. But no in the context of what happens in every premier game. Veltman was held the same at Ipswich but ended up being thrown into the back of the net.

Not a bad shout but, for all of his potential, I’d say that at this stage he’s not as defensively strong as March. All academic now, of course!

I think there is talent there, he can give opposition fits with his burst of pace, but then he can be outmuscled and look like an U10 player at times.

I have seen the same thing occur and it wasn’t given as a penalty. I want to see consistency in refereeing but I’m not seeing any improvements I’m afraid.

Solly's more of a LB than Webster or Veltman, from what I remember. Sadly he's injured. Again

So often he’s on the outside (wrong side) of wingers in otherwise innocuous play, positionally in defending he never learns.

Felt sorry for him on the third yesterday. Mitoma was off the pitch getting treatment to his eye/face and Tariq was overloaded and allowed the overlap. Hurzeler was right that we win and lose as a team. The likes of Lamptey, Dunk and Verbruggen will face all the stick for the goals, but the gung-ho tactics of the manager only had any chance of coming off if there was pressure on the ball. Our forward line constantly allowed them to stroll forward in acres and play balls into space for the quick wingers. The defence was hung out to dry.
