My biggest concern with Lamptey isn't losing him to another club but rather keeping him fit.
He seems pretty fragile, which I suppose is a trade-off for his blistering pace and the fact he gets clattered several times in every game as it is they only way opponents can stop him.

Agreed... controversial view but seemingly Lallana & Welbeck get labelled injury prone or sick notes , but Lamptey injury record in a short spell isn’t great - particularly when you add in the suspension.
Most big clubs will hold off to see if he can get a decent run of games under him before offering £50M.
He’s a very quick player but we have seen how repeat injuries can affect those that rely on pace

Fast players who get hamstring injuries often tend to keep getting them and eventually start being reluctant to run at full pace. Michael Owen and Will Buckley spring to mind. The fact that Lamptey gets hacked down most games is not going to help either.
How many games we get out of him is a concern. Even if fit I imagine GP will protect him by not playing twice a week
I imagine this will impact his resale value unless he can string 15 or so games together for us. It’s not looking likely is it?

Whilst I understand what you’re sayiang about rapid players and hamstrings, I wouldn’t start worrying about that with Lamptey yet.
The fact is he only started playing first team football at the end of June and since then he has actually played 20 Premier League games which is quite a lot for a player so young in just 6 months. Plus he’s had the added pressure of being a crucial player for a side battling at the bottom the league and as you say he has been fouled a lot in that time. And this has all been in the strangest of circumstances amid the pandemic conditions of play.
I think this sutained break was inevitable and will hopefully do him a lot of good in the long run.

Any sell on clause will be minimal as we held all the cards at the time.
Lamptey was in the final 6 months of his contract and was just about to sign a pre-contract agreement with Ligue 1 side Lille, meaning Chelsea would have received nothing.
Knowing this there is no way we would have agreed to anything substantial.

Might be a blessing in disguise -unlikely to be shipped out injured. With the tough game we have coming up his influence will be less. Get him back in February for the bottom half scraps

Not having your best player for 8-9 games is not a blessing. This is really unfortunate, and it’s not a good sign that such a young player is having injury problems already.

I thought the idea with this footballing lark is to always play your best team. Therefore you pick up the odd unexpected three or one point now and again. This then enables the team to be in a better position when playing the bottom half teams. Obviously this doesn't apply to the Albion.
