My draft post had a number, which I then edited out, like the coward I am.

That number was £60m. I do think he could be worth that in 12 months if he carries on like he's started.

Agreed. Showing far more potential than ****-Bassaka

Yep, I was about to mention Wan-Bissaka - Lamptey looks in the same bracket as him.

In ordinary times, on his trajectory, in 12 months, £40m + would need to be offered as an opening gambit just to get a conversation started IMO and £50m-£60m would not be out of the question. However, all clubs are taking a big hit with Covid-19 of course so the market might be a bit subdued for a while. Even the usual bit hitters might have to tighten their belts. Once it's all over it still could take a while for clubs to get back on their feet financially.
Where are you seeing covid slow down spending in the PL ??? Match day revenue is obviously a loss although it’s public knowledge it’s quite a insignificant sum compared to the TV deals.

Will there be a loss of TV revenue likely due to the expect extended period without fans? El Presidente might know

Not all the time the division is hammering in a bazillion goals and players like Lamptey are lighting up the socials.

Ok, but I thought Sky etc saw less value from behind closed doors football, and wanted to pay less for it as a 'product', or was that just the blanket coverage post lockdown?*

* In which case, I assume we'll have to pay back some money for September, where the same coverage 'model' is being applied.

That is correct.

Obviously I have no idea so am probably very wrong.
But I'll Eden a guess Sky would be trying to weasel out of the arms race, they created, irrespective of the fans.
It's just a comfy excuse to pin it on.

The product is threatening to be better than ever, with even more eyes on screens.

Watching the EPL coverage from around the world, would suggest the sponsor market is far from drying up.
Half time isn't long enough for them to all get a mention

Not as insignificant as you might think for the big boys. They have much higher proportions of their income from gate receipts than the rest so they are harder hit. The "big 6" trousered £495m in 2018/19 in match day income. For Arsenal that was 24% of their income.

By the time this stupid disease is gone clubs could be looking at losing close to a complete season of match day revenue.

Add to that:

The reported £330m TV deal rebate
Commercial impact of not being able to open the stadiums for tours / conferences etc
The cancelled Chinese TV deal

What's it all going to add up to? Well over a billion most likely.

We certainly seemed to have tightened our belts. Some other clubs may not done so yet, but they may have to if owners are not willing to keep ploughing money in.

However determined we were not to let Ben White go, we have surely got to be 3 X as determined to keep Lamptey.

Good news is that he seems really happy here, great relationship with GP, at a club which trusts youngsters and is giving him the chance he deserves, first name on the team sheet at this point, why leave? The grass is pretty green on this side already.

What we need to do now is start looking at securing him on a 5 year deal, and giving him a contract which is worthy reward for his work, his value, and his talent.

He will go eventually but as we’ve only just signed him it won’t be for a while.

trust brighton we struggle to score goals what do we do sign another defender ffs we have loads of defenders

Prospect he may be but in our current predicament I’d rather we signed Nii Lamptey.

Probably will be played as a left winger

Nope. Way too short to make it long term as defender in PL. Compensated by pace currently but won’t last and will pull constant hamstrings and be in ‘development squad’ with the other missing persons (why hasn’t someone called the Police yet?) if he moves to ‘the Brighton triangle’. Come on people, you should know the score by now? That and it’s just not going to happen anyway!

My quote is very valid. Can see him playing left wing back for England.

That’s a fantastic attempt at backtracking, but I’m not sure saying he’ll probably play as a left winger for us is very valid because you can see him playing a different position for a nation he hasn’t been called up by yet.

100% Agree. Seen enough to know how good he can be.

If he can sustain this level for performance, a matter of time until he’s called by England.

My post from start of the topic. Called it... and stand by what I said.

Even Southgate will have no choice but to pick him.

You did also say this... :p

This screams of a ploy by his agent to get a great new deal at Chelsea.

He’d be a good signing for us, but he’s another one of those ‘one for the future’. It is encouraging to see us making bids for players however.

I am quite happy to admit, however, that I had no idea that he would have the kind of immediate impact that he has had either (I suspect few did).

I think it's safe to say that if the Chelsea hierarchy knew he would be this BRILLIANT straight away, he would have cost us a wee bit more than the £3-4m reported, or they'd have let us have Reece James instead :lolol:

Which reminded me to see how big of a tit I was, at the start of the thread.
It turns out I, not for the first time, said nothing until after seeing the little fella play.

So in the absence of me being a knob, let's a quick game of:-

Who said this:-
(I'll start with an easy one)

They do get things right normally and we do have a great board. But appointing Potter and then extending his contract making him virtually unsackable due to financial costs was a momentius fook up. Extending his contract based on what exactly ? From what i was watching alarm bells were ringing out that early into his managerial career. I feel like Nigel Farage when he first took the steps to get the UK out of the EU over 20 years ago. People laughed at him as a crank back then. I feel the same with Potter but in time people will come around.

The Jan transfer window has been abysmal but hey ho you will find out in May. This season will be remembered for all the wrong reasons and the board has to take the blame for that.

I said he was a prospect and he has proven to be.

Meanwhile we still search and search and search for a striker...
