Is Everybody in their excitement missing the obvious?

The alleged source is indirectly coming from Peterborough FC, deliberately putting out this rumour, to try and ramp up offers from other suitors like west ham and leicester.

If you have 3 or 4 people at the table this is very common, play them off against each other.

But they have already accepted bids. How are they going to ramp up offers? An agent maybe, but not the club.

True. However, Adrian Durham is a big Peterborough fan and should therefore have some decent connections there. They will certainly have asked him to try to stand up this story... in this case, they may actually be one of the more credible news outlets...

suggest = the news is baseless

set = they're not even reporting it has happened yet
