So what IS this FSH exactly then? As a non-driver, I tried looking it up on Google and the whole of the front page is devoted to Follicle-stimulating hormone.

Are you trying to suggest that this is a car that comes with some kind of HAIR-RESTORER? ???

Think it will still prove steep on petrol. And what are you waiting for in a few years time - petrol at £2 a litre ?

Sounds alright to me.
Pride comes before a fall, but I got my 1.8 2000 Renault from the Shoreham auction for £1,350 2 years back, and it has been excellent. Not one thing gone wrong with it, over 100k on the clock now, 28mpg aprox, smooth and quiet and everything works great.

I reckon 2 years of maint.free reliable comfortable motoring has been well worth the dough.

5 door 2001 Rover 45 1.6 Twin-cam 16v
37,000
Air con, PAS, electric windows, CD, alarm / immobiliser, FSH etc
Immaculate condition
£1995

So I BOUGHT it.
Yes, I was tempted by the Audi A4 2.4 litre for a few grand more, but the government would routinely RAPE me in road tax and at the petrol pump even more if I'd bought that bad boy. There was also a rather peachy Alfa that caught my eye, but bollocks to it. I only need the thing to ferry me to HH and back through the week, so the price, low milage and excellent condition of this old Rover won me over. Plus the fact I didn't need to take out any finance with them. It'll do me for a couple of years till things hopefully get a bit more sensible again.

Yes, I own a Rover. And yes, it'll f***ing do.

As I said on here yesterday, I bought a Rover 420 three months ago with 46,000 miles on it but it has everything that this has except mine came with a leather interior and a new MOT. This thing does what it says on the pack, and for £950 I paid for it I can't complain. It's not flash but with it's lazy 2 litre engine it's very easy to drive, an old man's car yes but it ticks all the boxes I need. Think you did well Easy.

Exactly my reasoning. It ticked all the boxes.
Cheap. Good nick. Low milage. Thats the Big Three as far as I'm concerned. Leather would have been nice, but I've got that on my sofa, and I spend a LOT more time on that for sure.

milage is more important than age with cars these days, as long as you havent got a lemon that'll see you through to 100k+ with nothing but service costs, brakes and clutch. not my cup of tea, but a decent motor i reckon.

Isn't it the Rovers that always have problems with the head gaskets blowing after 45,000 miles?

It is indeed, it's recommended to tighten the head at every major service.

As tempting as I bet the Alfa was, that would have been a startling contrast to the unbelievably reliable car that you have finally put out to grass.

Sounds like a good choice matey.

On early diesels yes, properly maintained Rovers will do 150,000 no problem. It's basically a Honda which makes it a pretty sound bet. Another good reason for buying a Rover ? It's not likely to be nicked.

I am getting a hankering for a Ford Capri Easy, I had one in my boy racer days and it was MUSTARD. A great car and very reliable which got an unfair reputation. I saw some Geezer driving around in one last week and it looked MINT.

Only if you're drunk, it's pissing down and there's no public transport ! Serious, the Metro is a very different car to the Rover 200/400/600/800 series. Most of them had emobolisers as standard which would discourage most thieves.

A mate of mine had a black Ford Capri Laser, we must have been 18 or 19 at the time. It was his absolute pride and joy, he kept the thing immaculate. Practically bought the thing twice over with all the stuff he added (alloys, spoilers, top-notch stereo etc).

Happy evenings spent cruising around Brighton and along "the strip". Ahh, mammaries.
