Re: Fans United 2, the Doncaster game at Gillingham. I am pretty sure that was the infamous 45 minutes Michael Mahoney-Johnson played for us... one of the funniest/saddest things I've ever seen on a football field. Oh, and he was subbed off for David Adekola, who also never played again in the stripes.

It was so, so grim.

Adekola's sole appearance for us came at the Goldstone, against Cambridge United in October 1996.

Mahoney ‘the Pony’ Johnson.
Even now I shudder at his incompetence, the lack of any skill or effort. He seemed to spend his time grazing in the centre circle. Personally no one has come close to his levels of shittiness in the stripes, which considering some of the clowns that have played for us is saying something. The turf that he stood on (let’s face it he never played!) should have been ploughed with salt.
Since his time at the Albion I have developed a dislike of QPR for having the audacity to a) give this imbecile a footballing contract, and b) loaning him out to us. ********!

Undoubtedly the worst professional footballer I have ever seen.

One of life’s mysteries. We were an abomination…. And yet I still went to Gillingham to watch it. The game against Doncaster was about as bad as it got.

I made an effort that day because of Fans Utd… Christ it was grim

I agree. The single worst player I've seen at the Albion by some distance. People talk about how bad Farrington and Tiltman were but they were like Messi compared to MMJ. We had some shocking strikers in that era - Christer Warren, Lawrence Davies, Jamie Moralee and some I've probably forgotten, but MMJ was in a class of his own.

I am not swerving from my opinion that Valur Gislasson is the worst player I have ever seen pull on the stripes. As a wag (old school use of the word) back in the day said, words to the effect of “Iceland international, you do mean Iceland the shop don’t you?”

Exactly and not far from Fazackerly

Aaarrrgh - Derek Fazackerley, played 596 games for Blackburn and scored 23 goals, most of them I’m convinced against the Albion

It was also Fans Utd Two - which like all sequels and remakes wasn't a patch on the original. I went in a St Pauli hoodie (which tbf I'd worn to other Albion games) and someone said something to me in German. I just said "Ja!" and smiled.

That was probably Raphael and Henko who edited the St Pauli fanzine. They were definitely at that game.

We played Barnet at home on Bonfire Night and there was only about 1,000 of us up there and I'm sure we got done 3-0 and we were singing "It's just like watching Grange Hill "
That's my reality check these heady days but in a sad way I enjoyed Gillingham as it was full of die hard fans and none of these JCL's

Yeah, my choice for the second worse player would be a toss-up between Gislasson and Johnny Dixon ... although it's a bit like choosing between a kick in the balls or a broken nose.
